Here's my first attempt at using this recording method: DOWNLOAD

One thing I noticed is that my amp sounds incredibly trebly and overly gainy with most of the impulses I used. I had to use a low-shelf to make it manageable. When I normally mic my cab (1x12 Thiele with a EVM-12L) I have to pull the mic at least 4-5 inches from the grille and position it at a 30 degree angle pointed at the edge of the dustcap. Does this mean I just have to play with my settings to sound better when straight-mic'd and 45-mic'd? I could never avoid the fizzy-trebbly sound I got when micing like that.

I think it misses some vital middle! can't remember if that amp had that parametric eq, try lifting some middle.

Well you're probably right, although it may be the low-pass i put over my impulses... I find this amp sounds REALLY mid-heavy unless I tame them with it's own controls + my separate parametric EQ.

In mik'ing a guitar cab I get the sound I am looking for in the cab first then I cut back on the lows just a bit, because of proximity effect you will get most of those lows back.
