Mesa Studio Preamp or Mesa Recto Rec Pre? It's a two different devices.

That sounds good Y-Zero, but the guitar tone sounds muffled compared to the production on everything else. As in, if everything else had the muffled sound it would be ok, however, everything else (drums, piano, strings/synth, etc.) has a very bright and clear sound. As if you found that track somewhere online or something and just recorded guitars on it. I'm not saying that's what you did at all, it's obviously composed with the guitars and everything, I'm just saying the tone could've been a little brighter. 
Anyway, we had a Recto Recording Pre here at the studio for a few weeks to try out and it was pretty decent. We didn't keep it though as it didn't offer enough advantages over the Dual Recto head we have here already. Basically it didn't make sense to buy it and have the Dual also. We like the head + cab anyway, so...But if you don't already have that, the Recto Recording Pre is great, we liked it a lot.

yeah, i've heard the studio pre can get a good mesa MarkII tone, but nothing more as far as i remember.
