Metal 2025

The best new stuff I heard in February:

Nuclear Remains - Heinous Acts of Iniquity
Really solid slammy brutal death metal EP, arguably their best shit to date. Cool variation of vocal styles, noisy guitar solos, groovy drumming, reminds of the genre staples I was super into in the late 00's.

Nachash - Eschaton Magicks
Took a bunch of spins to fully click with me but yeah this rules. Especially the epic album closer. More of a grower than Phantasmal Triunity. Their 2024 demo had 2 tracks and they're re-recorded here to much greater effect.

Mephitic Corpse - Sickness Attracts Sickness
Finally dropped their debut after blue-balling the scene since 2019's demo. Just as disgustingly putrid as I'd hoped it'd be! If you like early-to-mid 90's brutal death metal when it was still fuzzy and sloppy, check these guys out asap.

Effluence - Pianistic Dismemberment
Brutal piano death metal with no guitars. Really pushing the limits of taste here but I like it a lot.

I haven't been able to keep up with much new stuff but this band was one of my favorite finds of 2023 and they have a new album out. I wrote a review for it below.

The best new stuff I jammed in March:

Christian Mistress - Children of the Earth
Great band, they took a huge hiatus and I'm glad they're back. Hard rockin' heavy metal featuring one of my favourite woman vocalists in metal.

Warhammer - Total Maniac
You know what you're getting with these guys, but it feels welcome after nothing for like 14 years. Solid Hellhammer worship. Track 4 goes hard as fuck.

Petrified - Old Farts Doom
Boomers of the German doom scene dusted off some old recordings from 2006 and finished them off nicely. Pretty much Saint Vitus and 80's Pentagram worship.

Idmon's Aegis - Under the Auspices of Idmon
Members of Wrathblade and Litany getting together to make some incredibly epic Greek heavy metal. I love this.

Toughness - Black Respite of Oblivion
Even better than their debut. A crazy mixture of Atheist, Demilich and Gorguts from Poland. AOTY potential right here.
