Even though I mostly listened to 60's and 80's music for the whole month, here's the best new music I heard in July:
Deathroner - L'ordre noir
Vicious, crusty and old school Québécois death/thrash/black/speed that was recorded like a decade ago but not finished up and released until this year. Better than
Death to All imo!
Stangarigel - Za striebornou horou
I had some trouble fully connecting with
Na severe srdca, which was still great of course, but this new album just immediately clicked for me. I love it when these oddball pagan black metal bands throw in old craggy trad riffs. Total sucker for the blend. The 2nd and 3rd tracks especially!
Beherit - Live in Praha CZ
There are so many live albums out this year I keep putting off, but I finally jammed this monolithic beast and it rules. Getting Black Moon/Juha (from a billion cool Finnish bands but most notably Witchcraft) to do guitar and vocals was a genius move. There are Beherit songs on here that are played even better than their original release, like some of the more mid tracks from
Engram. Just an unholy beast of a live record.
Floating - Hesitating Lights
This is a very infectious record that kinda reminds me of Reveal's
Doppelherz if they experimented with death metal instead of black metal. Ridiculously fluid bass that I just can't get enough of. I still haven't fully absorbed this (as demonstrated by my lack of track ratings on RYM) but I know for sure it's one of my favourites this year.
