Metal Label Secrets

On the other hand: even if it's not "spectacular" and even if you don't get rich it might be worth spending $29 on. Marketing texts are made to get people interested. Being head of Earache USA, Al Dawson will definitely have interesting things to say that most bands can benefit from. And if I was in a metal band I'd probably buy it.

Ya know, the curiosity is what sold me on this. Its not unreasonably priced for something of even moderate value, and not a whole lot to piss away if its garbage. I've wasted more money on worse things.

No offense but sounds like bullshit to me. If your music and your image is good enough and the band name well known in your area, so you have the essential, of course there is more than that but without that you cant do shit.

This marketing method is lousy as fuck and reminds me of those "methods to be a shredder in 3 hours" or "method to earn 8000 a month working 2h/day at home"

But if the guy is a legit guy, it's strange... JasonEric, could you tell us about what's inside ? If the content itself is legit, then it's probably worth it

As soon as I receive the dvds and watch em I'll write up a full review. I'm gonna say, at face value, I'm not expecting much. I pretty much bought it for entertainment purposes, and because I'm great at spending money on shit I don't need. I posted here first in hopes that someone might have seen it already, but if that's not the case, I can take one for the team.

It's probably 75% bullshit but I bet there are a few things in there that would be a good help. If I was seeking a label, I would definitely consider purchasing this. Worst case, you lose $89 and you learn to trust the music industry even less.

You didn't read all the way down huh? It's 30 bucks, the guy went from "hundreds" to 30 so it would sound nice and cheap for anyone hahaha

I am curious though, but not gonna buy it, I can live with curiosity

Maybe I am too much of a DIY guy but why in the current music model/business try to sign to a label?
Set up your own label/Press your own CDS/Distribute on line via bandcamp or itunes/ Focus on paying a headliner quality band to do shows with your band.
Being in a band signed to small labels they did nothing except have connections to get cd reviews and linkz to promoters - We discovered you can do this all yourself.

You can only take yourself so far before requiring the support of suits.

Jasin/Gra: both of you are right. It's actually unneccessary to sign with any label if you have a good amount of money to spend on a release. Labels these days mainly have the advantage of magazine connections, booking hookups and physical distribution/accounting. All of which can be bought from consultants (who used to work in the industry before their jobs got cut).

The problem for most bands is getting the money (30-50000€ for a good release) from banks. And yeah, the sum might seem a bit high, but it's probably on the low end if you include worldwide promo, tour buy-ons, etc.

The real problem actually is that musicians are usually stupid, lazy and inexperienced. Just like record label people are usually bad at playing guitar ...

For example????
What do you expect the suits to do??
I think money can open just as many doors as suits.

The benefit is not in the label paying for everything and then taking their cut in album sales, its more of a networking issue. It is easier and cheaper for the label to have one of their entertainment lawyers speaking on behalf of the band to solicit the band with the desire for promotion such as advertisement not limited to, musician/music magazines, TV and Radio air time if applicable and the ability to easily support much larger bands, play large festivals get media interviews etc.

While you could hire an Entertainment Lawyer to do such things, if they aren't on the preferred list that major labels know and work with, it highly diminishes your chances of getting spotlight of some sort, because outlets that I mentioned above are going to be partial to the big name lawyers/consultants/promoters of larger labels or any label over some random DIY band.

Now of course the label isn't actually investing in the band, they are paying for top quality service and networks, which means their cut isn't as high as say a band which is completely in their debt because the label payed for everything.

Its a networking thing, a label backing a band is going to get that band opportunities that they wouldn't get going DIY.
