Metal mix (how to improve?) (which master sounds better to you?)

Yeah I think the loud master seems really harsh. Idk why but the guitars hi end is really standing out more in it.
I liked the softer one better.

As far as your mix though.. It sounded great on everything I have. I played it back via TV speakers, old computer monitors, headphones, and my studio monitors.
maybe your laptop just hates music?

Great job though, I loved the sound. Any tips on how I can make a bass drop stand out in a mix more without peaking and whatnot? I liked what you got going on yours.

thanks brender!

and @picklesnatcher
yeah maybe so lol. thanks for the in depth play backs, good to know!
about the bass drops, i dont remember exactly where these samples came from but i just keep them pretty squashed and try to make sure nothing is clipping. also i pitch shifted the samples with vari audio

i just struggle getting my mixes as loud as everyone elses, so i push the master too hard and it begins to suck

Of course I may always be wrong, so more input from others wouldn't hurt! I'm just one opinion out of a million ya know?

Alright then thanks for the tips on the bass drops. I personaly make mine with the 3x ocilator off of FL studios. I fail to make my bass drops super explosive though lol.

Yeah man, as far as mastering goes... make sure in the mixing stage when you got everything playing back and you look at the waveform of the overall mix that nothing really jumps in volume to much. (you will have the loud parts and quiet parts depending on the songs dynamics) but keep the overall level pretty even. Use light compression and Gclip on snare, kick, toms, and the overall drum bus (lightly use this on the drum bus). It reduces how much waveform or whatever, but you keep the volume taking up less room in the mix. Then you can pump up the volume using a plugin like Ozone or something.
I'm an amature at recording but hey I try my best!

I would appreciate it if you took a look at one of my mixes to man!

The mix sounds pretty good on my monitors, not too happy with how it sounds on my laptop though. Anyone hear anything they dont like? or have any advice?
Also, does the louder master sound too harsh?
