GREAT WHITE - Deadly Pyro Debate

More details continue to be revealed regarding the tragic GREAT WHITE show in Warwick, RI that took the lives of 96 concertgoers and injuring 170 in a fire caused by pyrotechnics. As reported by Blabbermouth, according to Court TV's The Smoking Gun web site, Great White's performance rider contains no mention whatsoever of pyrotechnics being used during the rock group's current tour of clubs and small theaters.

CNN also reported that fire investigators have recovered all of the victims from the rubble of a Rhode Island nightclub, and forensic pathologists are working round the clock to identify the 96 victims. Governor Don Carcieri said "there's just no way of knowing" how long it would take to identify all of the bodies and that families have been asked to provide dental records to speed the process. DNA and fingerprints might also be used.

STC Broadcasting added that: The owners of The Station nightclub say they never approved the pyrotechnics display. Fire officials said there was no permit for the pyrotechnics display. An attorney for Jeff and Michael Derderian (The Station owners) said they had no idea the band

Great White would use pyrotechnics, and the band never asked permission. But Great White lead singer Jack Russell said the band got permission from club managers.

In the meantime, a fund has been set up by Centreville Savings Bank in West Warwick to help out the victims and their families. Those who would like to contribute can mail a check or money order to: Centreville Savings Bank, West Warwick Municipal Workers Fire Relief Fund, Attention: Cindy Joaquin, 1218 Main Street, West Warwick, RI 02893. Please make cheques payable to Fire Relief Fund).

Hope you are all doing really great!

Well the Australian "THUNDER from DOWN UNDER Tour" was an absolute blast! We had a truely fantastic time travelling up and down the great East Coast of Australia playing for all you great metal fans in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne. Many thanx to all of you PEGAZUS WARRIORS who came and partied before, during and after the shows...you guys RULE!)

We hope you all had a wicked time just as we did. We promise to do it all over again very, very soon guys! Also great to see some cool fans from England like Andy & Sarah and Nick...And from Poland it was great to meet Bart & Margaret. There are already a few live photo’s uploaded here on the website from the Brisbane show with many more coming that were taken by fans and friends while on the road...so keep an eye out for ‘em soon!

It was a bit of a shame that we couldn’t get the band over to Adelaide as we hoped but the negotiations for that didn’t seem to work out but we will try and work something out again for sometime this year, as we really do want to come over and there did seem to be quite a few fans dissapointed about our not coming there for this tour.

A BIG THANX must go out to the following people who made the whole tour a fun journey and great success! Thanks to our tour manager Frank Romeo who kept the circus on the road and right on schedule each day. Rami "The Powerslave" Freiha for giving us the sound and power night after night, Frank Aquilina for his endless help and support all the way, Gorgy and Giulio for everything at the Canberra and Sydney shows and we’re not forgetting anytime soon the late night/morning sessions of no sleep but loads of laughs, Brent Lean at Mothership and Annandale, Sydney (that place truely ROCKS!), Rob Mills (for the great tour posters, many thanx buddy!), Mark & Deanna for the gig at The Waterloo, Brisbane (Great to see Brisbane has a pretty cool metal scene), Reggae and Jackie at Rock Ape, Canberra (Thanx heaps guys!), Tessa and John at Central Club, Melbourne (Always there for us and metal in our hometown!),

To all the bands that supported, played and let us kindly use some of their live gear, Shadowolf, Vaticide, Reign Of Terror, Mortification, Sakkuth, Minus Life, Sedition, Rampant and Invictus.

Lots of fans kept asking us what the setlist of songs was going to be for the latest shows. Well, it was pretty much a best of type of list from the bands whole reportoire, which included nearly half of the new album "The Headless Horseman", playing 5 tunes from there and the rest of the live set was a great mixture of fan favourite tunes from the previous two studio albums, "Breaking The Chains" and "Wings Of Destiny". Also added the Judas Priest cover and crowd anthem UNITED which truely went down fantastic, especially in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Here’s a copy of the actual setlist that the band played on

IRON MAIDEN to begin mixing in April

IRON MAIDEN producer Kevin Shirley, who is currently working with the band at a London studio on their as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2000's "Brave New World", has posted the following recording update to his web site:

"The IRON MAIDEN sessions are progressing extremely well, and we'll actually be finished all the guitars today, with Janick [Gers] doing some final acoustic guitar overdubs today, and then we've got to finish up all the vocals with Bruce [Dickinson] tomorrow and next week. We've got Jeff Bova (who programmed and arranged the great strings on 'Blood Brothers' and 'Nomad' off the 'Brave New World' album) working on a couple of orchestral arrangements for two songs at his studio in New York, and then we've a few simple keyboards to overdub in London and we'll be ready to mix, probably by the beginning of April! Nicko [McBrain] is back in sunny Florida sending us funny e-mails and drinking vintage French Bordeaux, Davey [Murray] is off to Hawaii this weekend for some fun in the sun, and Jan is hanging around grey old London, playing football and drinking a few pints at his smoky local every now and again! Steve [Harris] is becoming quite the cunning linguist - learning his Portuguese from tapes, and Bruce is flying Boeings around the place, Iceland and Greece seem to be the chief destinations! Adrian [Smith], I think, will probably go fishing and I will go back to my home in New York in May, in time for the summer when I plan to write a book on some of my war stories from the studio!"

Hip-O Records - Reissue Mötley Crüe Catalog

Get ready to rock! The Hip-O Records reissue of the entire Mötley Crüe album catalog kicks off March 4, 2003 with the re-release of the notorious band’s 1998 Greatest Hits album. The group’s 10 other albums (four of them in both Explicit and Clean versions), plus two DVD homevideo collections, will be re-released on March 25. Eight of the 11 albums include bonus tracks making their U.S. debuts, having previously been heard only on their Japanese editions. For the band’s first seven albums, those tracks join the bonuses previously added for their 1999 remasters. The most recent four albums are reissued here for the first time: Greatest Hits, the rarities collection Supersonic & Demonic Relics, the band’s sole live album Live: Entertainment Or Death, and the studio album New Tattoo, which adds bonus tracks as well.

March 4, 2003 Release Date:
--Greatest Hits: Considered the best Mötley Crüe “best of,” the original 1998 album superseded the band’s double platinum, #2-charting 1991 compilation Decade Of Decadence ’81-’91. The 17-selection Greatest Hits, with “Smokin’ In The Boys’ Room,” “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Dr. Feelgood,” reached #20 and gold.

March 25, 2003 Release Date:
--Too Fast For Love: Initially self-released, the down and dirty Too Fast For Love sold a surprising 20,000 copies before its 1982 major label re-release. Today, the album which barely charted Top 80 is certified platinum. A live version of “Merry-Go-Round” has been added to the previous four bonus tracks.

--Shout At The Devil: Singer Vince Neil, guitarist Mick Mars, bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee broke through with 1983’s infamous Shout At The Devil, led by “Looks That Kill.” The album reached #17 and today is quadruple platinum. Now joining four previous bonuses is the demo for the album’s “Too Young To Fall In Love.”
--Theatre Of Pain: With this 1985 album, Mötley Crüe became stars. Featuring their first Top 40 pop hit, a cover of Brownsville Station’s “Smokin’ In The Boys’ Room,” and “Home Sweet Home,” the first power ballad aired on MTV (a 1991 version would go Top 40), Theatre Of Pain shot to #7 and is now quadruple platinum. A never released in the U.S. Tommy Lee drum piece augments five earlier bonus demos and alternate mixes.

--Girls, Girls, Girls: A party-metal sleaze classic, 1987’s Girls, Girls, Girls yielded another hit in the #12 title track and a fan favorite in “Wild Side.” Peaking at #2, the album became the band’s third straight quadruple platinum. A live performance of the album’s “All In The Name Of...” recorded in Moscow is now added to four previous bonus tracks.

--Dr. Feelgood: Mötley Crüe’s best-selling album, 1989’s Dr. Feelgood went #1 and six times platinum and spun off four Top 30 hits, including two Top 10s. The title track hit #6 and went gold, “Without You” reached #8, “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)” was #19 and “Kickstart My Heart” charted at #27. The demo for the album’s “Time For Change” is now included with four earlier bonus tracks.

--Mötley Crüe: With Neil’s exit, John Corabi was enlisted. Perhaps the band’s most serious album, 1993’s Mötley Crüe reached #7 and was certified gold.

--Generation Swine (Explicit/Clean): Neil returned for 1997’s Generation Swine, a #4 charter that was certified gold. The previously unreleased in the U.S. “Song To Slit Your Wrist By” joins four earlier bonuses.

--Supersonic & Demonic Relics (Explicit/Clean): This 1999 rarities collection now boasts the “Knock ‘Em Dead, Kid” demo.

--Live: Entertainment Or Death (Explicit/Clean): The band appended its long-time motto to its only live album, 1999’s double-disc Live: Entertainment Or Death.

--New Tattoo (Explicit/Clean): Lee was replaced by Ozzy Osbourne drummer Randy Castillo and the lascivious New Tattoo appeared in 2000. The 2003 edition will add “Timebomb” and/or bonuses from the Japanese double-disc and single-disc versions which include two demos and six live performances.

The DVDs:
--VH1 Behind The Music: Mötley Crüe: In 1999, VH1 broadcast the Mötley Crüe chapter of its “Behind The Music” series, and it became the network’s highest-rated episode to that date. The show was then released on VHS and DVD, and now returns on DVD.

--Lewd, Crüed & Tattooed: The band’s only concert homevideo, 2001’s gold-certified Lewd, Crüed & Tattooed was issued on VHS and DVD and now is back in its DVD format. Along with the live tracks are performance videos, a “making of New Tattoo,” screensavers, a 5.1 Surround Sound mix and more.

KRISIUN Aggressive News

Brazilian death metallers KRISIUN have begun recording their new album at Bebop 2 Studios in São Paulo with producer Pierre Rémillard (CRYPTOPSY, KATAKLYSM, GORGUTS). The as-yet-untitled follow-up to "Ageless Venomous" will include two instrumentals and possibly a cover version of VENOM's "In League With Satan".

Regarding the musical direction of the new album, guitarist Moysès Kolesne said: "After 12 years of touring and recording, we keep progressing and learning. KRISIUN lives only for the most aggressive death metal, fuck the fake cheesy shit bands which claim to be the best, fuck gothic, fuck melodic, fuck trendy weak new metal. Death metal is war and vengeance... The new album's gonna be just KRISIUN with full aggression, power, and originality delivering the real death metal..."

In other news, Kolesne is now the proud endorser of a custom Victory model Marco handcrafted guitar, developed by a renowned luthier from São Paulo, Brazil. States Moysès: "Marco guitars are awesome. Great sound, great look... it's different from all the other guitars I've played. For years I only played with American guitars like Jackson, ESP, B.C. Rich... Marco guitar definitely is on the same level or even superior to those companies. Also it's a Brazilian product which we proudly will show all over the world and prove we Brazilians are able to succeed and make great instruments."

DIMMU BORGIR to enter studio in March

Hello people, got a mail from Silenoz a couple of days ago and he gave me a hit of what is going on at the Dimmu Borgir camp. Here is what he had to tell us:

Just want to inform you that we start tracking the drum parts on March 3, 2003 at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg. All the new material is ready and we have also mastered our own pre production and it sounds awesome in our ears. We rehearse like we are possessed every day and will continue to do so until we go into studio.

There haven’t been decided any album title, but we are working on it. As you may have heard before we are having a huge orchestra in studio with us and at the moment we are negotiating with two big east European orchestras, nothing is decided yet.

Some of the new titles for the album is: Allegiance, Cataclysm Children, Progenies of The Great Apocalypse and His Inexorable Excellency to name a few.

That’s it for the moment, more info will be posted as soon as possible.

The album will be released in a jewel case and there will be a limited edition in a very special digipack available, including the bonus track "Far Away". 02. Open Your Life (Sascha Gerstner)
03. The Tune (Michael Weikath)
04. Never Be A Star (Andi Deris)
05. Liar (Markus Grosskopf)
06. Sun For The World (Sascha Gerstner)
07. Don't Stop Being Crazy (Andi Deris)
08. Do You Feel Good (Michael Weikath)
09. Hell Was Made In Heaven (Markus Grosskopf)
10. Back Against The Wall (Andi Deris)
11. Listen To The Fly (Sascha Gerstner)
12. Nothing To Say (Michael Weikath)

B-sides/Possible Bonus Tracks:

01. Sheer Heart Attack (QUEEN cover)
02. Fast As a Shark (ACCEPT cover)
03. Far Away (Markus Grosskopf)

According to the band's official web site, former drummer Mark Cross played on two of the tracks, his replacement Stefan Schwarzmann (ex-ACCEPT/RUNNING WILD) played on the B-sides, and MOTÖRHEAD's Mikkey Dee played on all of the rest. The track "Do You Feel Good" is a track originally written for the "Dark Ride" (2000) sessions, but was never used.

In a lengthy interview posted on HELLOWEEN's official web site, guitarist Michael Weikath discusses the album title, the drummer change, and the musical direction of the new CD, among other topics.

Here are some of the highlights of that conversation:

On the album title "Rabbit Don't Come Easy":

"It's actually 'Rabbit', it's not plural it's just single. Because it strikes me as odd, because one cannot go out and say 'Rabbit don't come easy', because everyone will say, 'Rabbits? What rabbits?' We also said, 'Pink Bubbles', and people asked, 'Why not 'Pink Bubble'?' Anyway, it's like this, if you want to do a trick, say, as a magician or as an artist or anything, it requires a little bit of knowledge and this and that, and anyway you are trying to pull a trick, which is also called pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Now, maybe when you are trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat, maybe the rabbit doesn't want to come out, or so many weird things are happening that you cannot get the rabbit out of the hat or cylinder so the 'Rabbit Don't Come Easy'. You can compare it to the production we had for the album. We had heavy rains in Hamburg that flooded the rehearsal space and we had to go to another room. Mark went ill and Mikkey had to play the drums, and this and that so when we were trying to pull the rabbit out of a hat the rabbit didn't come easy... Now what did I say? hahahaha I didn't say a thing! Yeah well..."

On Mark Cross' departure from the group:

"Well, he caught the Epstein Barr virus otherwise known as mononucleosis. This thing actually made him so weak that his body couldn't function properly. It seemed all of his power in his body was withdrawn. He took some weeks off to try and cure himself and regain some power and all of that, and eventually after three weeks we would try some new recordings and all of that because he said he kind of felt OK. This didn't work out too well, so [producer] Charlie [Bauerfeind] decided to bring in Mikkey Dee of MOTÖRHEAD to record the drums, and he did so very well. We started out doing five tracks only so we could continue working, and the idea was that Mark could go home and cure himself as much as possible until eventually he feels good or we have nothing else to record. So Mark came back just being himself the way we were used to and we went to the studio and recorded and it went well for only a day. Afterwards his power was all gone, and his drum recordings were shakey, and we couldn't use them so we needed to figure out what to do. We had to have Mikkey come again and all this... As it looks, even if Mark fully recovers and everything, Mark really can play, he is a really good drummer and everything and he could go anywhere now and maybe play a festival... However, the insurance side of things nobody would cover us. As bad as it looks to everyone, and as sad as we are about those circumstances, we had to look for another drummer, so that's what happened. I just rethought everything and remembered that once in the early days we shared a rehearsal room with RUNNING WILD and I remember that when their original drummer left the band Stefan Schwarzmann came in. I got to know him and I remember that in the short time I knew him we had a good time together, we were all laughing and having fun blah blah blah. It struck me as odd because I was not even thinking of that guy, but we had to call him because we needed to record some B-sides and a bonus track really fast, because Mikkey wasn't available as he was out with MOTÖRHEAD playing shows, so Stefan came in and played the B-sides really well, then we got him in here for a video, and during that time it was decided that he would be the future drummer. We are happy Stefan is here and we're also sad things went pretty bad for Mark."
