Ok, now the thread should be up. and readable.

I came to a conclusion recently thinking of great metal singers and it occurred to me that there aren't many real innovators around, these days...

Since these four guys:

Phil Anselmo (rage and frustration)
Burton C Bell (clean and dirty vocals)
Jeff Walker (malevolent!)
Tomas Lindberg (Oh My GOd!)

I think that all metal vocalists in bands of some importance nowadays are somewhat 'ripping off' the vocalists above.

What do you think?

You forgot "death metal" dude. Maybe David Vincent could be an idea as well.

In death metal you always hear the classic growl but you can also hear that high pitched scream in contrast during some parts of the music. Don't know who came with that first. You can hear that in Deicide a lot.

Oh and don't forget the high pitched melodic voice, maybe Bruce Dickinson?

Damn, I thought this thread was going to be about inward singing. Think about it man, rock singers are only rocking you half the time. The other time they're breathing in, but not anymore baby!

Hey! A lot of people I didn't even considered!!!

Of course, Dickinson! Devin!

The point though was that no NEW (read: in the last two to four) years has come up with a style strong and recognizable as the groundbreaking ones of the people I mentioned.

I love Dane's singing' but he's around since Sanctuary (the band) in late '80es and Deicide, Opeth too!

The only new amazing singer to me seems M Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold (especially his clean/crunchy choruses). I'm waiting for their third album to see if he will be a confirmation.
