Metal with very little verse riffing

Yeah, it is a strange request but I was listening to Pain of Salvation and I had noticed something about them that I really never did before - they rarely have verse riffing. Their choruses will have riffs, but not very often will the verses - and I sort of thought to myself "That has to be something that adds to why I like them."

So now, I'm here asking for more bands that don't use verse riffing very often!

So what do the verses consist of, if not riffs?

Guitar melodies, bass work, keyboard work, Daniel singing like there is no tomorrow, etc - there is only one song on Scarsick with any verse riffing, and maybe like 4 songs on The Perfect Element with any.
