If you watch their 1997 performance at Köln, you actually do get some ‘behind the scenes’ sort of interview segments of the band where they actually do go into their music tastes. If I remember correctly, Jesper likes everything, whereas I think Glenn liked everything but pop— Especially the Backstreet Boys.
From what I remember hearing, Björn wanted to continue with alt metal and Jesper wanted to go back to MDM a bit. I don’t really know how true that is, and it could’ve been a Jesper-worship rumor, but ASOP is definitely the compromise we got with it, and at least Jesper is proud of that. He’d continue using that guitar tone into 2010, and honestly, I fucking hate it. If they would’ve used that guitar tone on SOAPF, it would’ve been absolutely abhorrent.
