never heard of that trick before, fucking great idea!!

I'm usually using a combination of a piece of concrete sandwiched between 2 pieces of foam (only if I'm not using catsers...which is the case for some of my 4x12 in which the bottom speakers sound better, so I put them on the side with the good sounding speaker on top)

In a large room, I'd keep it grounded to the floor. In a small piss-ant room, definitely need to get it off the ground. Helps reduce that woofly boom you get in small rooms.

Don't they do it in the toilet venues in Germany? They do here... can't move on the stage for fucking beer crates sometimes. I swear half of 'em would put the kick drum on some beer crates if you let them!
