This is my first post in Ultimate Metal so bear with me if this is answered somewhere else :)

I'm looking to upgrade the quality of my recordings, and as the pre amps on the m-audio fast track pro i have been told are of a poor quality.

What exactly would upgrading to outboard preamps do to my signal path? Explain the added goodness if possible :)

So far i've got 3 different outboard pre amps in my sight and i wanted to get the general consensus on their quality or any alternatives :)

Also, would getting a beta 57 over an SM57 yield much of a difference?

Forgive the faults (cymbals overbearing high end and washyness, wierd automation in 2nd section of guitar volume from over compression and obvious lack of bass guitar, left lead for my interface at school so couldnt track bass at home over public holiday)

Cheers Guys :)
