What would be a couple of good go to mics to use on the 4x12 cab? I am thinking maybe a SM-57 and Seinnheisser 421? Or others better suited?
Anyone use a SM-7B? I was told they would be great for this application and produce a very flat curve for recording.
Just want some advice before dropping hundreds on mics that really don't work for this application of metal guitars.
Thanks

I mean, a 421 is great for many reasons, and isn't necessarily worse than a SM57...I just thought I'd list it out in order of what you'd want to buy first...SM57 is BY FAR the most commonly used mic for guitar cabs, so I think if he's going to start out, why not use whats basically the industry standard? The i5 is extremely similar, so I threw that in, and a 421 is great on guitar cabs, but its not used for that purpose too often, at least in metal recording.

I was just poking fun at the 57, not your recommendation of it :saint:

it seems to me like the 421 is one of the most common mics to stick on a cab, regardless of genre...
