Michael Angelo Batio

yeah im not saying he's the best but he's up there in terms of speed, like in the song Speed Kills it's just fucking retarted on how fast it is but yeah anyways

hail batio!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's talented but goofy and 80's style. 80's style soloing really gets old and uninteresting fast.

-.- MAB is the guitar god, there is no one better, he has the speed no one beats him speed wise, he has the melody clicky >> ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=UiT6qtM09tI ) he makes malmsteen look like a poser.

He can play both right and left handed perfectly, name one other guitarist who can do that? He came up with the over-under technique..... Need I go on? The guy is the best guitar player in the world BY FAR, now he may not be your favorite, but pure skill wise he is the best.

No. He can't write a decent song to save his life and his shredding is kind of sloppy, in my opinion. He doesn't concentrate on important little things like tone or phrasing or any of that, instead he just blasts his way through difficult exercises using damn near the same techniques in every single song. Wankers like Batio are the reason that guitar solos have become "uncool" today.

Hell yes. Malmsteen is more of a machine than a guitarist; he plays as if you programmed music theory into a robot and then gave it a guitar. Michael Romeo has a great sense of major key aesthetic and emotional content. Love him. :heh:

Since when did this turn into SONG WRITING, read the TITLE, WHOS THE BEST TECHNICAL GUITARIST

Where did you read that? Even so, I think Chuck Schuldiner is a better technical guitarist.

romeo knows how to write long and fascinating songs that really draw you in. listen to a song like "lady of the snow" in which he uses japanese scale and the song is just phenomenal. I'd say I like him more as a songwriter than purely his technical abilities (which are solid)

I'd say the two skills are healthily balanced in his case. The only guitarist I can think of who matches him in this balance is Chuck Schuldiner, though in a different way.

I fucking love japanese scales! :kickass:

edit: reading your posts is starting to get me interested in hearing some Symphony X. I like really good guitarists.
