Michael Kiske picks his favorite albums of 2008

On topic, nothing wrong with liking non-metal music but Kiske has been acting like he's ashamed of ever having been part of metal, i wonder why.

It's all because of the blow-dried hair, chest-hair exposure and tasseled leather jacket

Anyone who thinks that he didn't hear Venom by the time he recorded his second album at least is kidding themselves. "Born for Burning" make it pretty obvious. ;)

This is pretty funny, because the last time we went over this I explained to you that yes he obviously ripped that rip off. And yeah, he heard Venom when the success of the first Bathory album made Venom's label look at Bathory's label (not black mark, I think it's called Typhon) as a potential distributor for English metal, so they sent a bunch of stuff. This is the official story. It is consistent with how the first album doesn't actually really sound like Venom. It's raw and fast and satanic and that's where the similarities end.

Yeah...the Venom influence is on the first album too. Just because it's more embarrassingly obvious by the second album doesn't mean it's not on the first album too. I bet he didn't listen to Slayer either, right? Do you honestly think the sound on Bathory is a perfect hybrid of Motorhead and GBH?

WAIF, beware the dual Omni/Dodens attack!

I hear me some Venom in both albums, too. That said, the leap to a generally Venom-esque sound (the s/t) from the starting point of something like Sabbath could probably be made without the intervening step of hearing Venom. Obviously he'd listened to them by the time The Return... was written. I don't think the "official story" seems unreasonable.

The "official" story changed many times, mostly after he'd been caught in a lie, including when he said he'd never heard Venom, and then changed his story after people realized how blatant a ripoff Born For Burning is. Quorthon is easily the single biggest fucking liar in the history of the genre. It's so extensive that there are certain loyal, die hard fans that question whether or not he's actually even dead.

I like some non metal music. However I think Oasis and Travis are appallingly bad rock bands. I think he's a dick for liking them.
