Michael Sweet's Wife Moved to Hospice

Just a Kid at Heart
If you thought Stryper front man Michael Sweet's last blog entry (about his wife Kyle's battle with cancer) was hard to read, today's will break your heart. It certainly broke mine. It sounds like Kyle is slipping away.

From his MySpace blog:

It's Tuesday, 3/3/09...I sit here by Kyle's side again as I write this. She was transported by ambulance yesterday to Hospice. We've been unable to manage pain, weakness and difficulty breathing due to the disease that has spread throughout her lungs. When you write something about someone so amazing and so special, you realize after the fact that there are just not enough words to express your love for that person. My mind is full of so many thoughts right now and I wrestle with the fact that Gods will may be to take the love of my life. Taking care of Kyle and seeing on a day to day basis the toll this disease has taken on her physically, it's been very difficult to understand and to witness. Especially the pain and discomfort she has endured. Our faith is strong and always has been, but we've been broken hearted and living with the fear of losing each other here on earth.

You can read the rest of it here.

That is sad news and the Sweet family will be in my prayers. I also hear the new Stryper cd will be out soon. I would love to see them live but in Michael's case I would understand if they just did limited shows.

It's gotta be so hard to stay strong at a time like this. I've never lost anyone really close to me, and I dread even more losing them to something so drawn-out and painful. Hopefully they'll find some sense of comfort together, no matter how bad it gets. :(

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Sweets. Michael & Kyle have such an amazing marriage. This difficult time is quite a testament to the strength of their faith and conviction. Hopefully Kyle's pain and discomfort will be resolved soon, but hopefully that doesn't mean passing on.

Hospice workers are heaven sent. They helped ease my dad's transition and I will always be grateful.

So true! My mother was in hospice care as well. Hardest part is accepting that you need to share the care of your loved one with strangers, but then you realize they are there to not only assist the loved one, but you in letting go.

When I'm able to get past my memories, I'd like to be a volunteer to help others with this sort of thing.

Wow.

How old is his wife?

Zod

I'm guessing early to mid forties. Michael is 45. So she's probably in that ball park.

Here's a clip of the two of them on the Christian TNB Network's "Praise the Lord" program from September, 2007. She talks about her symptoms and diagnosis. At the time of this broadcast, she and Michael thought she had been healed.

Please understand I'm not advocating religion in this thread, or in this reply. I just wanted to let you now what she and Michael look like together and what the story is behind what's going on now.

Here's a clip (from the same broadcast) of Michael singing the Stryper song "Together As One."

Given what Michael is going through now, this song really gets to me.

So I'm sitting her reading this thread and my ipod is playing random. The song that comes on "If You're Gone" by Matchbox 20. Damn near broke down into tears right there.

My thoughts go out out Michael and the family.

+1,000,000 Same thing with my mom back in 1999.

I'm with Zod, I have no idea how anybody could ever do that job, but I'm damn sure glad that there are people who do....

The Sweet's story here is heartbreaking...

Hospice workers took amazing care of my grandfather his last two weeks, too - it was a lot of burden off my aunt, who had shouldered most of the burden of caring him over his last couple of years.

I can't stand Stryper, but I can appreciate the kind of close relationship Michael and Kyle have and - how awful. She's exceptionally fortunate to have someone to lean on, but the tradeoff is how much more painful it is for him in the end...

My Aunt does hospice work, and she has done for a long, long time. She is the most amazing and inspirational person I've ever met. Her whole life has been about helping other people. She even performed her hospice duties for her own mother (my grandmother) when she died. I can't imagine that.

It's the horrible reality of life that the more you love, the more your heart will someday be broken.
