Microphone cases and storage

I had a custom case made by a local company, it was about $200 and much higher quality than the cheap SKB shit you get at Guitar Center/Sam Ash. It has slots for 24 mics and a space on the left side for DIs and cables.

are they universal slots or some for the typical dynamic shape, a few for a pencil shape, maybe a few for an ldc...

I had them cut them in several sizes, and they said I could come back later if I needed more larger ones for LDCs and they would cut them for free. I think I did 6 large ones, 12 that were about "57/58" sized, and 6 pencil sized.

here's my advice:

get a nice piece of furniture with a couple of drawers, like this one

something that matches your studio furniture. then get a sheet of 3/4 in black foam...cut it so that it fits nicely into the bottom of each draw, and place them there. that will make your studio look better, and it will keep them safe too if the draws have locks

I have this IKEA locker with drawers, made out off steel and I put foam on the bottom and sides of the drawer to prevent damaging the mikes... works nice :)

I have this foam with the triangles on it. When you face the triangles up, the mikes won't move when opening and closing the drawers.

I have a set of drawers (two drawers and a file size drawer) that I keep my very slim collection of mics in - all in their original cases and sleeves and/or boxes. I use the other smaller drawer for all my spare cabling and the file cabinet for all my product documentations - it amazing how many of those little documents you collect after a while. I even keep the foreign language ones just in case I sell something so I can include all the original materials.
