This might be a stupid question, but I'm not really used to playing MIDI bass on a keyboard. Can you do up-strums when playing MIDI bass on a keyboard? If so, how is it done realistically?

Ya, maybe im not clear. Ok, when you play guitar/bass you can fluidly do a picking pattern on a string like DDUUDUDDUUDU. But if youre playing MIDI bass(bass played on a MIDI keyboard and triggered in a soft synth) you can't do that because you can only push down on a keyboard key, so if you imitated a DDUUDU (down-down-up-up-down-up) pattern, it would sound staccatto and like morse code

Use the sustain pedal on your keyboard. At least, that's what I did for many years. That way you don't get the staccato sound.
