what amps u used? reamp it?

I've not reamped yet. Trying to see how far I get with the tracks provided before doing that.

I'm trying to avoid triggering on the drums too. As this is the first time I've mixed live drums I'm using is as an interesting exercise really. :)

Speaking from a purely personal taste point of view, for me the kick is a little too in your face and clicky, and the snare is a little loud too. The guitars sound a little distant too.

How much of the OHs and ambient mic have you got in your mix?

Way less that I would want. But I couldn´t tame those cymbals, they were clashing with the vocals... failed at making them work together. About kick and snare I tend to mix them a bit loud all the time... kick I would take it of a bit. But snare for me must be loud! :kickass:

just downloading yours...

theblackmoon- the kick is way to clicky for my tastes and the guitars do sound distant. also the snare sounds really really triggered way to hi pitched for my tastes.

machinated- your guitars sound really dull and dark. maybe try boosting some hi frequencies. i like the drum mix. overall the sound is a little dark and dull

muttly- your kick lacks definition, maybe try mixing a good click with what u have. overall the drums sound pretty quiet, id add a few db to the snare and kick. i like it overall tho

Here's my first mix, not exactly my best ever mix, but I don't think it's too bad. Maybe I hit the mastering limited a little hard let me know what you think.

Eds Mix

If anyone is interested in how I mixed it, just ask.

Sounds cool. But the vocals are just too wet for me. Gives the impression of a small place, kinda boxy. I used really short verb as well, but less in the mix, and without all that high frequencies.

I always seem to go that way with drums, just a personal taste, ´cause of the fact that there isn´t a client asking for something I just did the way I would like to hear it. But, I agree, I´m a clicky-drums guy, so...

About the guitars, hmmm, haven´t heard any other mix of it sounding nice... always far, I believe it was not so well tracked.
As Mutlley said it is a great exercise if you can´t ask bands to records some songs so you can study technics and stuff.

Here are the details of my mix

Mixed with Pro tools
Some reverbs and limiting with System 6000
Mix was sent through a HEDD to a C2

Guitars were reamped with a Krank Revolution One for the left side and a Peavey 5150 for the right, although I wasn’t happy with the results, I had to record the guitars in a garage monitoring with heaphones :yuk: , had to use a digi 002 to send the guitar signal to a Little labs PCP and record the amps.

I would have liked to reamp the Bass but didn’t had the time.

Would have been great that the guitar players had recorded one more original guitar recording for each side. That would have made the guitar sound fuller.

The Bassdrum is 100% sample, the snare is the original track + 2 samples, the toms are a little of the original tracks cleaned between + the original samples that Sly recorded.

This was mixed in a :Puke:bedroom
