Hey guys, I assume that many of you here are very experienced when dealing with heavy vocal mixings, so I really need some tips from you.

I have being doing Metal vocals for around 3 years but I have never done vocals mixing properly. Now I decided to learn mixing vocals so I'm wondering whats your favorite plugins for screams/cleans and why? I used waves CLA vocals because its really easy to use but I feel its kinda limited.

Would really appreciate it if you could answer my question with some details( EQ, Tricks), many thanks

Also feel free to check out my band's single: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJTPzoAk5IU

For me, since I bought Joey Sturgis Gain Reduction, it ALWAYS go on my vocals.
It's just get vocals 90% finished.

For screams it's pretty common to add some saturation to make them more aggressive and cut through better.
Remove everything bellow 150Hz or even higher, unless vocalist have really deep voice.

Hey thanks man, I looked into Joey's plugin yesterday I think I should get one. What plugin for saturation are you using? and for EQ stuff I'm really noob at it so I have no idea about how to remove certain Hz...

Well if you are going to get that Gain Reduction you'll get saturation in it with gain know.
There are shit-ton of free saturation plugins, check them out and experiment (tube like saturation probably would work most of times).
In EQ find some recordings you like and you can compare your recorded vocals.
For ear training, I LOVE http://www.v-plugs.com/mr_soundman Even this non-premium version is amazing.

Just tried GR, love the sound and its really simple and clear to use. I love the sound when the clean vocals are heavily compressed , but when they are heavily compressed there are some 'ss' 'shh' sound coming from some words and for example when the singer sings 'back', the 'k' sound is unpleasantly loud and its kinda screechy. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks

Use de-esser plugins (if your daw doesn't have it Google for free ones), but essentially it's one band of multi-band compressor. Put de-esser or multi-band compressor after GR and tame 5khz and up so it doesn't allow those ss come through that loud but also doesn't lower other vocal sounds top end. BTW you don't need to compress with GR much (when looking on it's gr meter) because it already heavily compress and with lower gr you'll get less ss pearcing.
