Marcus, there's two kinds of people in this world, those that understand Strats, and those that don't. :p Kidding aside, I have 3 Strats and LOVE them. They may be "boring" to some, but at least you recognize one of the best qualities, their unique sound. Everyone should have at least one Strat laying around, you'd be surprised at all their uses, especially their superior sound for sweeping ;) That is, of course, if you do sweeps and/or care haha.

Hahaha, well I'm not big on sweeping, but I'll still take a pair of humbuckers in the bridge and neck (WITH NO STUPID FARTY PANTS SINGLE COIL BETWEEN THEM THANK YOU VERY MUCH) for my sweeping urges any day! And I guess what really makes Strats look so similar to me is that even when the color of the body changes, they all have that same boring white pickguard, that vast expanse of hideously tacky white plastic (yes I know some have been made without, but those are the exceptions). But yeah, I fully admit nothing sounds like a Strat!

Bah, strats rule my friend...hate to break it to you. I wouldn't expect you to use em or like em though, you play METAL! lol...;-)

Yeah, some metalheads use them, but strats shine for blues in my eyes. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Philip Sayce, Jimi all my their strats scream. Yeah it's a very specific sound, but very important to those types of players.

The years do make a big difference to hardcore strat players and collectors. I personally don't care so much about the year, only if it's built and plays well...but if those guys can notice and afford em, so be it. I'll stick with my American strat w/ Van Zandt single coils. I dare anyone to find a better clean tone than I had through my '68 Super Reverb. That tone was pure heaven! :)

Different strokes I guess...

Some sick playing courtesy of Philip Sayce:

I don't expect ya to like it, but I LOVE it! Thought it would balance the thread out a bit. :)

Hahahaha, thanks for the evangelicalism Joe, but yes I play metal, no I don't really like blues, and yes Strats are still boring to me! :p

Nice collection dude!

Unfortunately I only have one strat. The body is super lightweight alder form a highway one strat, Warmoth neck (awesome fret work), and Van Zandt Vintage + pickups. SWEET sounding pickups. Check them out if you are ever in need of new single coils.

Jesus Mike, what happened to the black one? And what's that writing on the upper horn of the silver? And furthermore, what's the difference between the three that made you feel compelled to buy, well, 3? :D

Haha, the black one was my first guitar. It's a MIM made in 2000/2001. I put it through hell and essentially got the "relic" effect, it has a sick vibe to it and brings out some great shit when I jam on it. I have modded it several times over the years, settled on Tex-Mex pups pretty much being my favorite. That guitar has been through hell, gig-wise, and then me artificially aging it on top of that. The burst in the middle is a 50th Anniversary Tex-Mex that I just could not pass up the deal I got it for. As you may have guessed, it has Tex-Mex pups as well, vintage style tuners, the rosewood board, and the neck is very different from the other two, feels thicker and it plays heavier than the others, hard to explain. Sounds fucking great though and it's my favorite. The silver one is a 25th Anniversary, in immaculate condition, that was my grandfather's and passed to me when he died. It has everything original on it. It says "Anniversary" on the upper horn under the finish. I don't ever play it, because of it's sentimental value, so it's more of a display piece than anything.

The two I do play are totally different in very many ways. But you'd have to play them to see what I mean, kinda hard to describe.

Joe: I may check those out, although Tex-Mex are my pick, the black one is use to being modified so it could see a set of them in the future haha.

Couple more shots of the black one, you can see the detail in the fucked-upness:

Taken on the deck lid/back windshield of a cherry 1968 Camaro SS to boot ;)

Nice DIY relic job dude!

Yeah I actually had the Tex Mex pickups in a Jimmie Vaughan strat. I thought they were ok really, so I switched to Fralin Vintage hots...those I thought were meh. When I switched to the Van Zandts, I instantly fell in love! Worth a try if you ask me...they are really nice.

Man, it's funny. I like different types of guitars including shred guitars, Les Pauls, and strats. Each one puts me in a different state of mine when I sit down and play with them. I feel that I can be way expressive and dynamic in my playing when I sit down with a good strat. When it's being played through a blackface Fender (or silverface 1968 Fender that I previously had), it's a heavenly experience.

Man do I miss that amp. I'll own another some day. I do plan on owning more strats too. I'd like either a '62 reissue or one of the custom shops some day.

F'in tasty man. I lust for a good 'ol vintage Fender Bassman head with updated power cord. Maybe even modified to JTM45 spec on the guitar channel, original bass channel. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM. I see them now and then on Craigslist for great prices, but never have the cash handy when I see them :( Much like the Peavey Rockmaster haha. When I have extra money I can't find them, and when I find them I don't have that money to blow, gets really old but one day it'll sync up and I'll be happy.

I agree, every guitar brings on a different mindset, different vibe and different creativity. I have noticed that playing on Strats I also tend to use a much wider range of dynamics, it just brings that out for some reason.

And many relic haters would tell you my relic job is crap. It is. I dig it though anyway  I want to eventually do the neck as well, the fretboard wear, etc. The knobs and pickup covers have some aging to them currently, in the pics they look new still. Now they have a brown tint to them and look old. I had never done it before so it's pretty weaksauce in comparison to the Fender shop jobs, but they know what they are doing. Really I just got bored one day and decided to take a torch, a hammer, keys and steel wool to it. Completely random and spontaneous.

Yeah Mike, I gotta say the blemish on the forearm cut on the top of the guitar straight up looks like you took a blowtorch to it - not exactly what I'd call "natural wear and tear"

Dude, look for a blonde Bassman! Those get some nice overdriven tones on em!

Not worth shelling out a ton of money for a less desirable blackface Bassman channel when the blondes are great.

Marcus: Yeah, I know it's not haha, I didn't really intend to make it look "old" really, I just wanted to fuck it up - I think I accomplished that though

Joe: The blackfaces I find for $500-650 for the ones that have been completely updated, and I found one for $575 that had the JTM45 mod, all locally on CL. I don't even bother with fuckBay on them because I'd rather it be local so I can see it in person before buying. What kind of prices do the blondes go for?

The best source I know for legit, dealer-sold Fenders, is gbase. I bought a few amps from dealers on there. This way you know you aren't receiving it from some jagoff who abused it in his basement.

Not sure of their price point right now. Check out gbase! But by my earlier statement, I mean that the cheaper blackface Bassmans will not have the most desirable blackface circuit. Most of them are still the "bass friendly" circuit and not the more desirable "guitar friendly" circuit. Sorry I can't be more specific on circuit names haha.

I do know however that the blondes can sound quite tasty! I'd go for one of those personally. Supposedly they can get the most dirt out of the bassman varieties.
