While Saxon can't piece together a US tour, and have been reduced to playing small venues in england, in germany they seem to be dooing rather well. Check out where they came in the rock hard magazine reader's poll

13 best band (beating megadeth, priest, among others)
20th best musician goes to biff byford
4th best live band (thats higher than priest, maiden, motorhead, ac/dc, dream theater!)

and equally as important, lionheart is number 12 in the reader's charts, more than a year after release!

So cheer up everyone

This is why I can't understand that they aren't as well known as other bands... oh well keep the best music for the right people

As for 4th in the live chart... that's damn good! I always knew they put on a good show.

By the way, Where did you get those stats from, I want to take a look at the rest!

There good stats cheers for putting them on the board, saxon are well underestimated, i think the Lionheart album did them a world of good for the fans as well, saxons next studio album will be i think a big album for them comparing it to Lionheart should be interesting.

But if they keep most of the songs untempo like on Lionheart and make em into classics like ( to many to mention ) it should be a great album

p.s Where is that To hell and back again DVD anyone no.

i agree that saxon are one of the best groups live, as for them only playing small gigs in the uk thats simply because the powers that be over here havent a fucking clue about which bands to push and which to ditch .....listen and ill prove my point... download festival happening june this year headliners "guns and fucking roses " i mean for fucks sake . an over hyped one album band with an history of not showing up headlining our only metal festival (no offence bloodstock !!) last year megadeth 11 studio albums big fanbase ideal for a festival ,big sound, minimal fuss how long did they get ?....45 mins in the middle of the afternoon just before dinosaur jnr (WHO ?????) iI like many others on this site have seen saxon at wacken so we know that they are a big band befitting a big stage , why oh why cant we have a day at the download festival where we pay tribute (and a bundle of cash to see real bands playing real music to real fans) im nearly forty and it pisses me off when i pay 140 quid to see second rate untalented american shite ( and dont start having a go saying slipknot are the business)...... i can play 3 power chords and grunt maybe i may get a place on the bill .
i will say this now so you remember you heard it here first
Headlines in the Kerrang download special june 2006
"Axl Rose arrives in time for encore debarcle "
God give me strength...........

I love Saxon but IMO there is no way they're better live then Iron Maiden. I guess it's a matter of opinion and that's all well and fine but as far as I'm concerned Maiden is better live.
your right goose everyones has there own opinions as yours is as valid as the next guy.... in my opinion saxon are better than maiden live for one reason Saxon play for their fans ........ Maiden play for the money....... dont get me wrong i love maiden and have seen them on every tour over here since piece of mind but there has never been the integration between fans and the band like there is at a saxon concert.... its not scripted and some would say its not even rehearsed lol but i recently purchased the death on the road dvd (filmed in germany )and i must say it is EXACTLY like when i saw them in Sheffield 3 weeks later..... whereas i saw saxon in bradford last october and then in nottingham 3 days later and the set list was different for both gigs the chatting between songs was different so it felt more intimate and spontanious
but hey goose anyone who likes saxon and maiden aint all bad ..... it was us that set the spirit free

Yeah, Maiden do seem to play the same stuff in a really similar way. They're still a good band though. But Saxon do play for the fans and play what we want to hear!

I dont think you can compare the 2.Saxon have had to get used to playing them kinda gigs.If Saxon had carried onwards and upwards i think they would have to have started playing like Maiden.Maiden play the same set every night because of the stage show so there is no room for ripping up the set list.
I think Saxon would love the bbig stage show(remember the ply wood castle:lol: ) but crap record deals and so on ruined it.Saxon deserve to be on the big stage but personly i prefer small gigs.

I agree !00%. What would be the point in going to see Iron Maiden a few times on the same tour? Every show would be EXACTLY the same. I am seeing Saxon four times in five days in April, and I know I will be seeing four different gigs.
