Ok folks just need a little help here,
Just wondering does anyone know what frequencys I need to boost or drop to get more attack out of a guitar?? the style I usally play is like locking pedals with riffs (i.e. fear factory) But can't seem to get good enough attack out of the guitars.

1 Use a harder pick
2 Hit the strings harder (with a thicker gauge if necessary)
3 Change your pickups
4 Buy a real amp (there's no way you will sound like FF with a toneport imho)

  1. Get Planet Waves .84mm picks. They're green. They rule, they come in packs.
  2. Get an EMG 85 in the bridge position if you're on a 6 string, or an EMG 707 in the bridge if you're on a 7 string.
  3. Put a tube screamer in front of your POD or amp
  4. Get a Boss NS-2 or ISP decimator noise reduction unit in front of your amp. Use the onboard noise reduction on the POD and spend time getting it just right and balanced with the compression, they work nicely together in moderation.
  5. Angle your pick 45 degrees relative to the string and dig in the attacks nice and chunky
  6. Use heavy gauge strings. What tuning are you in?
  7. The Criminal model should get you plenty of attack on your POD

Second this.

I'll also add that compression with a slow attack will bring out the pick on rhythm guitar sections. Try anywhere from 16 to 30ms attack and quick release and see how you go.

Also.. try backing off the gain. Overgaining an amp... in particular an amp sim can really kill your transients. Try using less gain but layering more tracks.

wouldnt a tube screamer not really do anything but make the signal louder?

correct me if im wrong but i thought the benefits of a tube screamer only came from tube amps so that the guitar signal could be overdriven which forces the tubes to saturate more. in a modeling amp i dnot see that happening

I'm tuned to B standard and use a seven string. Though I have been meaning to get a 707 emg.

I like to use jazz 3 picks, as I find you get more persistence and acuratecy with em.
