without pro equipment! I'd post a link myself, but I don't have any, haha.

Show us your best work with the cheapest things you have lying around! It's about expertise before tools anyway, right?

Hmm, good question. I think it'd probably be the Envenomed EP: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/285689/Music/Envenomed-Slave_No_More.mp3

Drums were tracked in a rehearsal room, guitars done DI with some cheap jackson into a studio project vtb-1, vocals on that particular track were done into a Mbox I believe. I forget which vox mic.

On second thoughts it could even be this: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/285689/Music/SteveTurner-Recalibrate.mp3

Drums tracked in a rec room, guitars done all at the guitarist's place, DI, chapman stick DI'd. All amp modeling (Guitar Suite I think it was). Drums on the final mix are all raw except for a 20% kick sample blend.

gubbkuk mixed these vocals, but with some compression while i was tracking them, it sounded nearly exactly the same. im not entirely sure what the final chain was, and im not taking the credit for the mixing of these, but yeah, with compression the raws sounded very close to that

SM57, handheld, with the top part of my hand covering the gap between the capsule and the handle
sounded so fucking weird on its own, not all that pleasant, worked beautifully in the mix as you can hear :D

That's an insanely good cover from all aspects, I genuinely confused it for the original. Hats off to you good sir.

Dude that first track is LEGIT! not that the second one isn't, but I really love the space the drums are in in the first track! Any tips on that?

I also much prefer the first track. And that's coming from someone who owns the original CD. Well done.

God Gareth the first one is insane. Definitely legitimately pro sounding. Second has some weird issues at some point but is still bitchin'!

:kickass:

orly?
it can always be better.
maybe one day when im 50 and just about doing mixes up to andy's standard (PFFT AS IF) ill finally be satisfied
but i srsly doubt it

wait til you hear this shit i am working on right now though, holy fuck.

Probably the best I've done was/is the stuff for my band (no time/budget constraints)

http://geetarguy.tripod.com/Whitechapel.mp3

when i saw that the title was "whitechapel", i expected something completely different than what i heard haha(thought it was a cover).

sounds good though.

here is my favorite mix to date. Just a local band from around here with no previous recordings. Turned out to be a pretty decent band

i've had this problem of putting the overheads too low in the mix lately, but i'm working on that. I also started mic'ing the hi hats separately finally(not on this mix though)
