A little while back before I finished university, one of the tech staff in the department told me that the junk that had accumulated in the basement of the workshop was gonna get thrown out. He told me there was some tubes down there and if I wanted I could go through them and take what I wanted. What I found was 6 Mullard/Philips EL34's. I borrowed an AVO Mk3 tube tester and tested the tubes to see if they worked. They did.
They are XF2 Mullards/Philips (same factory) and from the production codes I have worked out that they were made in the late 60's/early 70's. From the tube testing I found there were 2 sets of pairs that had very similar anode currents and mutual conductances. These 4 EL34's are even in their original boxes and I suspect they were spares and probably have never been used.
The question is... what should I do with them? My guitar rig is solid-state at the moment so I don't have an immediate use for them but I plan on buying a modded Marshall in the not too distant future. So I could keep them for use in that or I could sell them and put the money toward other gear I need. Opinions?
