Someone make sure to let us know what the Porcupine Tree DVD is like... I'm a bit skint right now and I wanna know if it's worth the $40.

It is absolutely top-drawer!! Brilliant in all departments! :notworthy

Arcturus - Shipwrecked in Oslo
great concert and a little shitty extras :D
but the concert makes up for it :)

i saw the chaos path and ad absurdum on youtube and the performance was meh, especially vocals. the sound quality is also not great. and the circus people on stage during the chaos path were simply distracting. is the rest of the dvd better? i would have loved to see arcturus live with garm on vocals. i wonder if garm can pull it off live.

One DVD that's total crap is Dark Tranquillity's. It has a great setlist and they play really well and the footage is cool, but it is MASSIVELY, MASSIVELY unsynced. It is absolutely intolerable to anyone with any ability to notice that the vocals are happening at a different time than the guy's mouth is moving, and it is almost constant through the whole set. Just awful. I have no idea how they let that get by.

That is not completely true. It just depends on the DVD that you own. I have a couple of players at home, and on one everything's fine, and on the other the sound isn't synched with the picture. Try your copy on someone elses DVD player.
The only problem I have with that DVD is the crowd, that looks like they're attending a funeral...

there should be version of him singing star crossed on youtube.

this one? Star Crossed and Radical Cut
this has oyvind haegeland on vocals, not garm. the quality is bad, but he seems to be really good live on both of the songs. i did not like simen's performance on the vids i watched. i wish oyvind had not quit.
there is another vid of him on vocals: Nightmare Heaven
i actually kind of doubt whether garm can pull off radical cut, for the obvious reason that he may not do the screaming so well after not doing it for so long. i still wonder about the other two songs, though.

Ween - Live in Chicago

any Ween fans here? Not sure how they intersect with Opeth. Brilliant band.

Live in Chicago was ok, but I've seen them put on much more interesting performances.

A friend of mine is obsessed with them, so I've heard alot of their stuff. I've seen them live a few times & would say they put on a great show. Last time they played 3 hrs & threw in a couple of covers. 'Hot for Teacher' 'Enter Sandman' & a CSNY song.

Don't really like their cd's except for maybe Chocolate & the Cheese, but I like their live stuff which is quite different. Haven't seen them in a while. The singer is a dopehead & can't stay clean.

They're very popular at colleges. Pretty sure they were the most requested band at college radio stations in the US a few yrs ago.

It's wretchedly off on my comp, my dvd player, and my ps2, so I figured that meant it was just plain done terribly. What player do you have that it works on? And do you have the NTSC version, or the PAL version? The PAL one might be fine.

Not metal related, but if there are any Prince fans here, I can't recommend the Sign O The Times movie enough. Amazing.

The man is so fucking cool. Not to mention insanely talented.

Ah my mistake, i couldn see his face, but i saw that garm type outfit and thought it was him.

Hypocrisy - Hypocrisy Destroys Wacken

Peter Tagtgren is simply amazing live. The guy's voice is even more powerful than it is in the studio recordings. This album/DVD is definitely worth checking out just for the Peter's performance alone. And if that wasn't enough, the production of this album is the heaviest you'll hear. The guitars are loud and clear and so is the bass. Everything is mixed perfectly and the sound is just so thick. This album is truly one of the heaviest albums I've ever heard.

Alice in Chains - Unplugged

Just because they've always been my favorite band. Layne's voice was only a fraction of what it once was, but he's still impressive here. He looks like he weighs about 27 pounds, but the guy could still sing.
