MXL 603s for overheads?

Procrastinating Fuck
Does anybody else use these with success? Seen some on ebay going pretty cheap and was wondering if they'd be up to the job...at £70 for a pair I'm a little dubious but they're allegedly from an authorised dealer. I've heard good things about them from what I've seen online but a few places have said they're a bit too harsh for overhead use. (and our drummer is far from light-handed on the brass anyway :erk: ) I'm wondering whether the more expensive MK012s would be a far better option or if these are generally good enough for overhead use?

I bought 2 oktava mk012 for about 70€ each and I think it was a good deal. I'll buy another one very soon! I've heard some OH comparison and the oktava didn't sound bad compared with Neumann and Shure.....if you want good and cheap mics, go with oktavas.
My 2 cent

the 603s are wide cardioid and also feature a fairly large highend boost which means they will pick up alot of cymbals, much more then the rest of the drum set.
so... you got 2 options:
1.using very dark cymbals
2.not using the 603s as OH ,maybe as a ride or HH mic.

Tomer.

I've been using the 603s mics for a long time and really like them. They're great on acoustic guitar as well.

They're worth the money.

+1

they are pretty bright, so if you're not careful a splash or china can be pretty obnoxious...but i love the clarity

i forget what i paid for them, but it wasn't much at all
