My Alice in Chains - 'Them Bones' cover.

Dan this is awesome !! Congrats !

One thing that was typical of Layne was ending most of his notes with a vibrato, which you did a bit sometimes, but for the most part you kept singing your notes straight all the way, which is how one can tell the difference.

You killed it during that guitar solo, and that guitar solo is just badass. Jerry Cantrell is one of my heroes seriously.

By the way, i rember one guy putting a "vocals only" stem track from the original song, check it out this is awesome (you can hear all the harmonies and processing very clearly) :

By the way, i love Layne and Jerry, and i think the few vocals William Duvall did on the new album are amazing, BUT you should really check William's previous work with his band COMES WITH THE FALL, the guy is just outstanding and gives way more than what he does in AIC. His vocals and the band remind me of an awesome mix of Soundgarden, U2, Jeff Buckley, Alice In Chains and Led Zeppelin. I've been listening to their stuff like a maniac in the past few months. This is too good :

Cheers smy. I used to be in a band called My Minds Weapon which was kinda thrashy proggy metalcore, but we faded away a couple of years ago due to our singer quitting shortly after the release of our first album (which got a proper international release). I didn't do any singing though, fortunately! Haha. I'm in a new band now although we're not gigging yet... sure I'll put up a recording once our Ep is finished!

Thanks dude! Yeah I only discovered the solo'd them bones stuff after recording it. So annoying! There's also a drum and bass solo performance (bass is drenched in flange!). Love the solo as well... not that technical although the 7/8 timing throws you off to start with.

Please post a new thread when you have some of your new band's stuff available for us to listen to (wow now that was a long sentence :) ), but also a link in this very thread since you got us hooked here :)

Yeah i agree about the bass flanger thing !

The solo, like most Jerry Cantrell's solos, isnot really technical but sounds awesome and really "sings", which is what i love in solos.
I love the solo in the "private hell" of the last album. Always jam that one when i practice the guitar.
I love to do some improv vocals (just sung notes with no real lyrics) when listening to some bands, and i wish someday i would know the fretboard by heart so that i can improvise on my guitar in real time as if i was singing the stuff (which is definitely possible, i've seen videos of guys singing the notes they were about to play on the fretboard).

I hope you are the singer in that band this time! :D

Haha, thanks but I won't be. Backing vocals at best for me! I'm kinda limited to a pretty good Hetfield (86-90) impression and a new found Layne

Basically I'd be prefectly qualified to be in a godsmack tribute band, but that's about it :D

I'm well underway with a cover of 'We Die Young'. I'll try a bit harder with the drums this time though...
