So instead of buying a head, I went with the PA setup through a regular cabinet and used my Boss GT-6 as a preamp and to be honest, I was dissapointed with the sound I was getting out of it, it sounded too "muddy" and and when I was playing at practice with Distorted Mind it would sound too "airy" with all the other instruments going on. So I went to Guitar Center to pick up an EQ for my rack to hopefully enhance the sound, I have the treble all the way up on the Boss Pre-Amp but its just wouldnt brighten the sound. So the guy at GC told me an EQ wouldnt help me and recomended the BBE Sonic Maximizer 362. It was 100 bucks new and I gotta tell you.. I am REALLY surprised at what it did for me. Id recomended for everyone's live rig.

So heres my new amp (in my closet right now) I cant wait to krank her up at practice

Yea Sonic Maximizers are cool, our guitarist runs one through his rig too. I cant remeber what brand his is though.

I thought amps were those little black boxes... about the size of a soccer ball....

Your thing looks like the control system for a nuclear warhead.

I'll take that as a compliment penguin :)

Ellis, I can only imagine what one of these would sound like through an Engl :heh:

They can do wonders indeed - I'm not sure how widely used they are in the professional arena though. :kickass:

Not very much, from what I've heard (for studio purposes, anyway). They're one of those wonder tools that initially seem too good to be true. Very prone to over-use and screwing up your sound with.

I've had the plug-in format one for a while. I used it tons in my mixes back in the day, but have ditched it entirely in recent times in favour of some more crafty EQing. I find that bypassing the BBE entirely and using other methods to achieve the sound I'm after always gives me better results. The BBE is just a quick fix.

for normal people i think the bbe sonic maximazer is good. Jeff uses one according to the guitar world add, but i don\'t trust them
nice rig mike.
what guitars do you have?

ONLY if it's the rackmount version. When I worked at GC, we got the Sonic Maximizer in pedal form. Fucking sucked total ass. Waste of money, don't go near it.
