The spoken moans and whispers have returned in full droves, as have the violins, and some sparse growls that mimic the sound of vultures feasting on carrion while Jon Lecest anally rapes Asmodee at the ph@rmacy check out window. A step up from the snoozer that was A Line of Deathless Kings, on par with Songs of Darkness.... Some decent riffs and melodies, but will require further absorption to reach a verdict.

[token "frankly they've been a bit shit since 'the thrash of naked limbs'" post]

I already knew before I created this thread that Erik was going to bitch. If I did an audit of every MDB in RC, there would be him bitching.

Aaron makes his Swedish soul sigh.

do you honestly think this man can sing

i just don't see it

p.s. my dying bride HAS done something good after the deathy albums and it was "the whore, the cook and the mother" off 34.788% which is an album i respect because it was an actual attempt at doing something real instead of just pandering to the teary eyed goth girl demographic OVER and OVER again christ what are you by now 40? your "fallen angel" has three snotty nosed kids and she gives them packets of crisps for lunch probably d.s.

I can't dispute the fact that they are a fraction of their former self. As the Flower Withers is their Magnum Opus, TLtS & tAatDR are both solid, and everything following has been patchy. I enjoy his discontented yowls in moderation. This album is a huge step away from the constant moaning seen in the last album. Aaron actually stifles himself for the sake of the instrumentation.

i can get past the singing. 34.78% is a great album, other than that one song. TLatEotW has some great songs and so does Songs of Darkness. the last one was shit, though. i still listen to Trinity and Swans the most.

The first song is the best IMO. It's better than the previous album, but far from their best.
Yeah, pretty much so...

I think it's pretty good. At least it's not one listen release. Violins are great, touching... Even 'proggy' guitars are cool. Some people say that Aaron sings on this album like he's seeing lyrics at the first time, - not sure about that. He sounds pretty sincere.
The've had better stuff, but also had worse.

ah yeah, i listened to swans and dark river a lot for about 10 minutes then i stopped being depressed and realized they're no good at all really

:D
MDB has so much potential, too bad they're afraid to take the next step, and evolve... see neurosis, anathema, ulver. We saw only a pinch of that in 34.788%
I really feel that about a lot of metal bands today. You've got Drudkh, Blut Aus Nord, even DT, who got on to something and retreated back, out of what I can only guess is fear of alienating their fanbase. It's only natural for some bands to take their music further and create more interesting stuff.
I mean, I don't have a problem with some of the purist bands who exist soley as a working formula (I don't ever want D666 to change their sound), but others have a way broader direction which they are wasting.
