My dying Bride - Songs of Darkness, Words of Light

I've heard it...another solid My Dying Bride album, and some of the darker and gloomier passages remind me of Angel & the Dark River...the opening track is excellent, and Aaron is in particularly strong form.

Listening to "Catherine Blake" right now, it sounds pretty amazing. A LOT better than the material on "Like Gods of the Sun" (which is the only MDB Album I have).

Anyway, "The Dreadful Hours" had a pretty dreadful cover as well and let's not talk about 34.1293812734891246164%...failed experiment, but just yesterday I was thinking how great MDB's really early covers were. I also noticed that "The Thrash of Naked Limbs" has a BOOBIE on it! Höhöhöhö.

Am I the only one that liked 34.788%? I didn't love it, but I certainly didn't hate it. There are definitely a few very good songs on it and a couple of clunkers.

Favorite MDB album?

Like Gods of the Sun for me.

I don't know why Like Gods of the Sun gets crapped on as much as it does. It is certainly better than Angel of the Dark River or 34.759379375% whatever.

Good MDB covers? are you kidding? The top three you posted look like abortions from Travis Smith. Te bottom three are vomit inducing. And Turn Loose the Swans cover looks like bird shit petrified on an icicle.

No, the top three are good, see. They're at least not Photoshop crap. "Turn Loose the Swans" started the crappy cover tradition... "The Light at the End of the World" isn't really bad though.

The Dance of Death cover is pretty horrible but at least the concept is less retarded and gay than most Derek works nowadays.

I'm going to be perfectly honest and admit I haven't heard it. I will now try to download a song or two. Anyway, good or not, I was speaking about the cover which is ghastly.

Erik - do you honestly think that the artwork on "Infinite" is worse than "Dance of Death"? More gay or whatever, yes, but dude the artwork on "Dance of Death" just sucks. The shadows are out of place, some shadows don't exist where they should...it looks like a child was given 10 minutes with 'MS Paint'!!

I agree, at least the Stratovarius one looks professional as opposed to DOD. And they should have contacted Dave McKean to do the MDB artwork...
