I have not posted here before , but I thought I'd post my list in the hope that a few folks might find it of some value. My list exceeds the word limit for a post here, so I've just included the summary and provided a link for the entire list. Thanks for reading.

Summary Stats

Metal releases in 2007 = over 4000 (source: Metal Archives)
Metal releases in 2007 I liked = 122 (Highest total in previous years = 76 in 2003)
So I liked 3% of all metal releases in 2007. Well, I did not hear all 4000, but I gave it my best.

Add 4 demos, 2 first-time releases on CD, and 2 non-metal releases (I’m as surprised as you are.)
In addition, there were 14 releases from 2006 that I had previously missed and 9 from before 2006.

Debuts (welcome to the world of metal) = 36
First I have heard from a band with more than one release (late to the party) = 27
First I have liked from a band with more than one release (changing for the better) = 28
Band has at least one disc I like, but I do not like their previous disc (comebacks) = 13
I like the previous release by this band (consistency) = 20

Genre Commentary

This was a fantastic year for instrumental metal (the most instrumental releases I had liked in any previous year was 2): Blotted Science, Behold… The Arctopus, Indricothere, Canvas Solaris, Collapsar, Scale the Summit, Marc Rizzo

I finally liked a release by a proggy band I always thought I should like: Mekong Delta, Wayd, Sadist, Alchemist

I never thought I would like another disc from this band: Symphony X, Megadeth, Agent Steel, Soilwork, Nightwish, Thirdmoon, Helloween

2007 was a poor year for standard melodic metalcore (only the following made the list): August Burns Red, The Sorrow, Soulgate’s Dawn

But it was a great year for complex noisecore, a genre I rarely liked previously: The Number 12 Looks Like You, Psyopus, Myotonia, The Fall of Troy, Lye by Mistake (2006)

I’ve apparently become a traditional prog metal and progpower wuss: Redemption, Symphony X, Circus Maximus, Mind’s Eye, Nightwish, Thought Chamber, Helloween, Pathosray, Dominici, Abstract Shadows, Suspyre

But I still love complex and proggy death: Odious Mortem, Visceral Bleeding, Illogicist, Deathbringer, Born of Osiris, Sickening Horror, Element, Between the Buried and Me, Ingenium, Malignancy, Wayd, Sadist, Naumachia, The Body Beneath, Ontogeny, After Oblivion, Random Mullet, Terminal Function, Brain Drill (2006), Goldenseed (2006), Mephistopheles (2006), Pessimist (2003)

Hair metal lives! After a 16 year drought, I liked not one, but two hair metal releases: Hardcore Superstar, Sebastian Bach

Even worse, I liked two non-metal discs: Fair to Midland, Three
