My Metallica tour!!!!!

Hey guys!!! I'm just back from my north American tour with Metallica and what can I say!!!! It was an absolute fucking blast!!!! I got 7 plectrums over the 4 gigs, smiled at by James and Kirk, Rob slapped my hand during Enter Sandman and to top it all off Lars dragged my friend up on stage and let her count in Seek & Destroy on the drums!!!:OMG:

If anyone is registered on Met On Tour then go to Philly 19th Oct (I think! If not, the 20th) and look for the the Uk flag cos that's me and my buddies!!! I'm at the very right next to the very bored looking girl. The chinese girl is the one that got on the stage. :headbang: I'm on it a couple of times but I'll try and save the photos so I can show you all! I will write some reviews of the gig soon but I just wanted to post just now.

HEY METALLICAT!! I'M GLAD THAT YOU HAD A BLAST! HOPE TO SEE THE PICS SOON. THEY SHOULD OF PULLED YOU UP ON STAGE!! BUT YOU MIGHT HAVE TAKEN OVER!! HA!HA! :D

METALLICA AND QUEENSRYCHE WAS MY FIRST CONCERT IN SAN DIEGO WHEN I MOVED FROM TEXAS. I WAS THE ONLY GIRL IN THE GROUP AND THAT NIGHT WAS AN EXPERIENCE!! I WAS SICK WITH STREP THROAT, BUT I WASN'T ABOUT TO MISS THIS CONCERT! THE ROUTINE WAS TO GO TO THE LOCAL PIZZA HUT, GET SOMETHING TO EAT AND DRINK AS MUCH BEER BEFORE HEADING OVER. WELL THE GUYS DECIDED TO CHANGE PLANS AND WENT TO THE RALPH'S ACROSS THE STREET AND BUY A BUNCH OF BEER INSTEAD. IN A NUT SHELL, WE WERE BUSTED FOR LOITERING BEHIND ONE OF THE STORES AND HAD TO WAIT IN THE COLD FOR SAN DIEGO PD TO GET THERE. THE SECURITY GUARDS FOUND A JOINT THAT WAS TORN IN HALF (TRYING TO GET RID OF THE EVIDENCE) AND A SMALL PIECE OF THIS JOINT WAS PUT INTO THE BIGGEST ZIPLOCK BAG THE RENT-A-COP COULD FIND!! HE THEN PROCEEDED TO FLICK OFF AND ON HIS FLASHLIGHT ON THE JOINT. WHAT A WEIRDO!! :loco: THEY VIDEOTAPED US AND MY BROTHER (WHO WAS 17 AT THE TIME) SAID "HI MOM" AND THE SECURITY GUARD GOT PISSED! OUR FRIEND WHO WAS THIS HUGE 6'3'' BLACK GUY, COMES OUT OF NOWHERE, FREAKS THE GUARD OUT AND PUT HIS HAND ON HIS GUN. MY FRIEND KEPT WALKING OVER TO HIM AND THE GUARD YELLS "STOP OR I'LL SHOOT!" MY FRIEND STARTED LAUGHING AT HIM AND TOLD HIM TO CHILL OUT AND TO PUT HIS GUN AWAY BEFORE SOMEONE GOT HURT. HE TURNED SO RED! WELL AFTER AN HOUR, THE SDPD FINALLY SHOWED UP, TOOK OUR NAMES AND LET US GO. THAT WAS IT! THE GUYS BLAMED ME. THEY SAID THE WOULD HAVE TAKEN OFF BUT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ME BEHIND! I SAID BULLSHIT YOU DUMBASSES!! IF YOU WOULD OF TAKEN OFF, THEY WOULD OF JUST LET ME GO AND WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE BUILDING BY NOW!! SO WE HAD TO RUN AT TOP SPEED ON FROZEN LEGS TO THE BUILDING. AS SOON AS WE OPENED THE DOOR...ENTER SANDMAN!!!!!!!!!!! :headbang: :headbang:

MetallicA
The UK Torn North American Tour
17th – 22nd October 2004

My American adventure all started with the Metallica fan club. After meeting Kat, Ade and Andy when I saw Metallica in Glasgow in June of this year, Kat invited me to come to America with them as they were planning to go to some shows there. Of course I jumped at the chance and we planned for months till everything was organised. We were meeting up with another two clubbers, Neil and Susan, at Heathrow and they were really cool – then we were off!!

We arrived at Newark International Airport about 11.30am on Saturday 16th of October and after going through the check points and getting our luggage we picked up our rental car and then went to our hotel. We dropped our bags off and after freshening up then we headed off to New York! No hanging about for us lot!! We got the subway into New York and as soon as we came out of the station we were faced with Madison Square Garden – only the legendary rock venue!! Then on to Times Square for dinner in Planet Hollywood! I especially loved that as there was a big display from Back To The Future II which I absolutely love!!! They had the hoverboard which I wanted for years after I saw that film!

The next day was the first concert in Washington DC. We drove to Kat’s friend Vic’s house as we were following her down to DC as we had no idea where we were going. It was a very long drive, about 4 – 5 hours but we managed to get there ok and we were all getting excited!! When I first walked into the arena I could not believe it – the stage was so close to the barrier!! A couple of feet at the most. We hung about the MetClub booth talking to various clubbers and sharing ‘Tallica stories until we heard Godsmack finishing then we made our way down to the arena. We managed to get very close to the front, I ended up about 3 people from the barrier behind my friends. After about half an hour It’s A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock & Roll by AC/DC came over the PA and me and my friends went mental cos we knew they played that before they came on stage. When the Ecstasy Of Gold started the rest of crowd went mental and the build up was incredible! Then they ran on stage and blast into Blackened! It was great and we were all so into it. After a couple of songs they started No Leaf Clover which I’d been desperate to hear and it sounded awesome! Then a rarer one – Ride The Lightning which I’d heard in Glasgow a few months before. At the end of that song I saw the crew bring James’ acoustic guitar stand on stage and I knew what was next – a song I’d been desperate to hear for years – The Unforgiven! It was incredible and gave me goosebumps! The only disappointment was that I couldn’t hear the solo which is the best bit of the song. I could see Kirk playing it but I couldn’t hear it properly. We got a very special surprise next. Rob and Lars were jamming together and was thinking that sounds a bit like The God That Failed so when the guitars kicked in I nearly died – IT WAS THE GOD THAT FAILED!!!!! After they’d played it Lars came up to the mic and said “First time in ten fucking years!” The setlist was so good and I heard a few other songs that I’d not heard live before – Fight Fire With Fire, I Disappear and Disposable Heroes – which I’d also been wanting to hear cos it’s my favourite from Puppetz. At one point in the show James looked and smiled at me which totally made my night!! I was so excited to get 3 plectrums after that show as it was the first time I’d actually got anything from a show before.

The next day was our tourist day in DC. We went to the usual places like The White House, Lincoln Memorial etc. All of us must have got about 30 pictures of the Washington Monument cos as we were walking round all the sights we kept seeing it from different angles! We must have wandered about 10 miles round DC so we were very tired – I was quite glad of the long car drive back cos I got a chance to sit down!

The 19th was the first Philly gig so we drove down to Vic’s again and hung out there for a while till we had to drive to the venue. Wasn’t as bad this time – only a couple of hours. Me and Kat only had seats for that show as we got them through the MetClub presale and could only get seats. We took them cos we wanted the special MetClub tickets but we weren’t happy about this so we swapped the tickets and paid an extra $75 each for standing tickets. So we paid about $150 for those tickets!!! The things we’ll do for Metallica!! It was worth it tho! Once again we waited till after Godsmack to go in and where I was there was a guy in MetClub shirt so I started chatting to him and when the band came on the stage, he let me in beside him on the rail which was really cool of him. Matt, who was one of Vic and Kat’s friend that we’d met up with managed to get backstage and told us that Bam Margera from Jackass was there which I found really cool as I think he’s wicked! One of the highlights of that gig for me was Leper Messiah which sounded brutal live. We got The Unforgiven again and this time we heard the solo!! I remember looking over at Kat and we smiled at each other and gave each other the horns cos we’d both been disappointed at the DC as that’s our favourite solo. Fight Fire With Fire was also a highlight for me cos I was going mental during that song and I was headbanging and screaming along and I looked up to see Kirk right in front of me smiling at me and headbanging with me which I thought was so cool! During Enter Sandman, Rob came down and was playing right in front of me and slapped my hand which was just so cool! Got another 2 plectrums that night as well.

We were all very excited for the second Philly gig cos we all knew that when Metallica play the same venue back to back then all bets are off regarding the setlist. When we were at the MetClub booth I was chatting to another one of our friends who’d travelled over to see them. There was a radio station going round talking to some of the fans and he came and asked us if we were from Philly and he was shocked when we said we were from the UK and interviewed us for the radio station!! Once again we had a great view and as soon as the intro for Battery started we knew we’d get a good setlist – it was so brutal and is the best opener in my opinion. Had a few rarer ones in that setlist – The Thing That Should Not Be, Holier Than Thou and two songs I’d really been wanting to hear - Bleeding Me and Damage Inc which were both flawless! We also got the much sought after Dyers Eve which was great to hear even tho the crowd weren’t so into it. I was stood next to two complete bitches who shoved me back when I worked my way beside them throughout the show which pissed me off cos they didn’t know any songs and looked so bored throughout the show – I hate people like that! I was kinda bummed after that show but I just don’t think about it now. We were going to be getting a VERY rare one on that night but it was dropped 5 minutes before the show started cos it was still on the setlist that someone got. We were going to be getting the debut live performance of My World which I was kinda upset about cos I would have loved to have hear that song!! Managed to get a plectrum from James that night tho which I was very happy about!

We had a day off the next day so we went back into New York and went to The Empire State Building and did some shopping. That was another day where we seemed to do nothing but walk! We were going to be going to The Statue Of Liberty but it was quite busy so we left it for that day. We had to get our picture taken in Battery Park tho!! We all thought that was great! That day we also went to Wall Street and to Central Park where we were recreating Home Alone 2 scenes!!

The Friday was the last gig in East Rutherford, New Jersey but we were in for a good one tho! We crammed in The Statue Of Liberty before we headed off for the gig cos we all really wanted to see it. The New Jersey fan club chapter “…And Jersey For All” had the idea of wearing Hawaiian shirts to the gig cos when Metallica were in the studio recording St Anger they had this thing called “Aloha Friday” where you had to wear an Hawaiian shirt on a Friday so they all did that and brought a banner saying it was “Aloha Friday” as well. We were going to do that but the only ones we could find were in Quiksilver and were a tad expensive! After we got in we all got to different places but we could still see each other so me and Andy ended up opposite where Kat, Ade, Susan and Neil were but we didn’t mind cos we all had a great view! The band were absolutely on fire during this gig! We saw James’s wife Fran and son Castor there. One of his daughter was apparently there too but I never saw her. Also saw Myles and Layne Ulrich too, who are Lars’ sons. At one point during The Unforgiven I saw Castor under the stage where the crew and guitars are kept just looking up at Daddy and giving him the horns which was just soooo cute!! The best song of that night for me was Master Of Puppets – I was going absolutely psycho during that song and really hurt my throat – it didn’t help that it was followed by Fight Fire With Fire which really hurt it too! We got Last Caress/Green Hell that night which was great to hear – especially together as they’re usually done separately even tho they’re played one after the other on the record. The highlight of the entire tour came next tho!! They always do a thing where they ask the crowd if they want one more song and Lars came down to the area where we were and spotted Kat who was screaming “10 more! 10 more!” so Lars, who recognised us and our UK flag from the last 4 gigs said to her “Do you want to play them?” and got Gio (James’ security guard) so lift her out of the crowd and he let her do the four cymbal count into Seek & Destroy!!! We were all going mental for her and it just made the gig!! We all couldn’t stop talking about it and we still can’t now!!! Lars also let his sons help out on that song and they threw drumsticks into our area of the crowd after the show – I touched them both but never got one. It was a really mental scramble for those!

awesome - wonderful read! made my neck hurt too reading about the shows!

Thanks!!!! My neck isn't bad it's just my throat - Puppetz at the NJ gig really killed it!!! I forgot to mention that during the slow bit of Puppetz, James was playing it right in front of us and he made an “Oops!” face and then mouthed down to us “That was shit!” – I never heard anything wrong but I thought it was hilarious!! Can’t wait to hear it back to see if I can hear the mistake!

Here are some photos from the shows I took with my camera phone - they're pretty crap but the best I could do unfortunately.

This is us on MetOnTour. I'm on the very right next to the bored looking girl.

I saw James and the bass player in the airport coming home from Japan to do the Grammy's last year. They were right next to me signing guitars and autographs. They were very personable with people. My husband was on the same flight and didn't even know it. The came off first and were already on the shuttle when my husband came into the airport. We tried to wait around so he could see Lars and Kirk, but they must have gone through another way or been stuck in customs, so finally we gave up and left. Poor guy, he was the Metallica fan and missed them.

Metallicat, I really enjoyed reading your concert tour with Metallica! I went to the show in Anaheim last night and thought I'd post the setlist. It was an AWESOME show. These guys have all the energy in the world and then some! Just as I saw them last in 1992 during the black album tour their intensity was just as I had remembered. I don't care much about St. Anger or much of Re-Load except for Fuel, but the rest of their older stuff is absolutely intense, though they didn't play my favorite song Creeping Death but they played The Four Horsemen. During One, I think I lost my hearing with all of those explosions going off since the stage was pretty close to where I was. James Hetfield reflected how they played their first EVER Metallica gig down the street a few blocks away from the Anaheim Pond only to see it as Barneys Beanery or a parking lot (I didn't catch it), and thats when the crowd really roared to see the hometown boys come back to play in their back yard again after they moved to San Fransisco. On a scale of 1-10, a 10++, just like an Iron Maiden show. Horns up!!!!!

Ahhh, the first ever Metallica show - 14th March 1982 at Radio City in Anaheim!! Random bit of knowledge there for you!! I know what you mean about One - after Washington as soon as the Full Metal Jacket bit came on we all covered our ears cos it is soooo loud!!! It's great being so close to the stage isn't it - you have such a connection with the band! You got The Four Horsemen you lucky git, I would have loved to have seen that!! :headbang: I always thought it wouldn't be a Metallica show without Creeping Death but at 2 of the gigs I saw they didn't play it and I never even noticed till someone mentioned it!! Oh well!! Hahaha!

I'm glad you enjoyed my review and the show!!! Thanks!!
