I actually like the "Silent Hedges/Double Dare" thing Nevermore did. However I have yet to hear "Love Bites".

I like Metallica's "Whiskey in the Jar" better than either Thin Lizzy's or the Pogues' or any of the fiddly Irish versions I've heard.

FrostGiant its on the second volume of the century media tribute to Judas Priest and is easily the best on the whole tribute aside from the Iced Earth Version of the Ripper and Skyclad's version of Dreamer/Deceiver.

Worst cover song ever, also on said compilation:
"Painkiller" as done by Angra.

which did you hear first, out of curiosity?


and one possibility i'd mention is The Melvins' cover of Fleetwood Mac's Green Manalishi- which incidentally was at one point covered by Judas Priest.

yup, that's my theory.
usually whatever version you hear first sounds the most 'right'.

i heard thin lizzy first, and thought the metallica one was way boring. what really pissed me off was when they put out tablature books for that album when they never even wrote any of the songs.

and melvins' version is not necessarily better than the original, it's just better than the judas priest version.
