Hi
I need some advice on this mix. It sounds pretty good to me but there is something that doesn't convince me...don't know...probably lack of verb/room sound... it seems more dry (as usual) than my reference cd's.

Automations are not done yet so some parts are too loud (expecially toms when the guitars don't do too much).
Let me know what do you think!

Thanks

Automation as you said, vocals are a bit loud and effect may need some more hi-pass. Drums need a couple dbs, mainly kick. But overall, sounds good.

I like how rough it sounds mate! Need more production like this!

They want a more natural sound as possible and they don't want to sound overproduced like the 90% of the current productions.
I think it turned out pretty natural.

Ok here we go:
In general you can make the drumkit sounding brighter, just a tiny bit.
Toms can be panned like L70 R70, so you're opening the stereo image, just to avoid the mono effect.
Guitars a bit more fat, less fizz in the upper mids (maybe it's just me wanting this)
I know it's hard to make those guitars fat with a "standard" tuning like this. You can listen to Exodus's "the temple of the damned" to see that low tunings bring you more of a fat tone while "standard" (exodus) will give you a brighter/aggressive tone.
Anyway I like the mix a lot, toms are sounding not overly processed and fake, nor the rest I can say ;)

Not my fav mix from you but sound good exept this drum need more room imo. I love when drum are in huge space:lol:

I love too :D But this time it was in a small small space.
I think that one of the problems of my mixes are in fact the lack of good room sound for the drums.
Anyway they like it a lot, the want a raw and old school sound

maybe a tad more scoop on the snare. i don't want the drums to be louder really, they just seem a little distant. i know it can be tough to get natural drums to be really up front without replacing, since it doesn't have those sharp trasnients that samples have and can't really cut through ...and bleed becomes a nightmare. would they consider blending sample? a brighter snare sample blended in would really work wonders for this mix. maybe vox down a bit and limit the master bus a tad harder? also not feeling the drive bass, blended with a more natural track would've been good i think.

Master is not limited on this sample, only tape saturator, compressor and tube saturator. There is already a snare sample blended (taken from the kit and processed) but they want also an old school sound instead of a natural sound. And for the drummer this drum sound is too much modern :)
I've already changed the bass distorsion but I'll automate the 2 little breaks where the bass is alone.

Another thing that bothers me is the stereo image, expecially the guitars. They seem not panned 100% in the mix, expecialy if I compare my mixes to pro mixes. Guitars in this case have the same setting Left and Right but each side is played by a different guitarist so, differences for a better stereo wideness are present.....I don't know what's wrong with them. Sometimes it seems that pro's put a little bit of stereo widening in the master bus (Charles Dye does it in all his mixes)...

wideness in guitars is totally random but i never find myself needing more of it and i've never even given it any thought, or thought about a plugin for it. quad tracking definitely spaces things out. if you don't have ozone, try out the demo, even without using the stereo imager portion of the plug ... the maximizer seems to spread everything out and make things "huge". althought it is also the most colorful and "cluttering" mastering limiter out there... if your mix is anything less than crystal clear ozone can turn it to mashed potatoes real quick.
