Need some feedback TO PROGRESS.....SM7b / JCM 2000 / Steven Slate drums

Only a couple things. I don't like the guitars that much, They sound good, but maybe a little floppy/muddy? Maybe I'm just not used to the amp. I hear so much 5150 that's kind of the guitar sound I have in my head most of the time.

And secondly, did you "double" the vocals by duplicating them and shifting the duplicate over a few ms or something? They sound phasey to me. Don't really like that either. Other then that, sounds great!

Thanks Audiophile for the kind words

as far as the JCM Settings
Prescence 8
Treble 6
middle 7
bass 4
Gain 6 or so

Sinister Mephisto i hear what you are saying about a diffrent sound as far as amp goes....but i agree with about the guitars being a little muddy
And about the Vocals I agree with you i hear something thats wierd in it.....like you said phase problems
i had the Vocalist double everything.....So there was no duplication of the track....i Know thats a NO NO........I have all the vocal tracks panned down the center...........Have anymore ideas what could be happening ????

Damn nice sound...What kind of plugs used on the guitars? I think the tone is great...did you boost the Marshall? Very nice, powerful tone. I've heard a bunch of JCM2000's in the past, most didn't sound as heavy as that. Is that the crunch mode boosted? or lead mode?? Also, DSL or TSL?

Pretty damn impressing!

I agree on the guitars being a bit muddy, but all in all they sound pretty nice and especially good for a JCM. The odd, phasey thing in the vocals doesn't bother me that much. Actually, I hardly even notice it without listening really closely.

But good job, man!

The reason it sounds phasey is because he hasnt completed locked up with the first vocal take. Just pan them either side and play it back at half speed you will see where it isnt tight. If its a few words in a phrase, trying nudging them left or right a few samples.

sounds awesome, I could even go for a bit more kick. What did you use for mastering, GClip? Also, I can't quite put my finger on which snare that is, I think I know but I don't want to guess and be wrong about my own hits. :) Also which 2000, the DSL?

Just an Waves Eq on the guitar to tighten up a few things other than that we tried to get it to sound exactly the way we wanted before we hit record
its a jcm 2000 DSL crunch mode is boosted
thanks for your interest

so you think i just didnt track the Vocals tight enough together??? thats why im getting that weird phase like sound???

yeah i'll bring the kick up some
As far as the mastering chain i basically got it from you Slate
it was back in a Thread Called Average Loudness or something like that
but anyways i use
SSL EQ to fix any frequencies
SSL COMP to glue everything together like no more than -2db reduction
then i put a gclip back to back with the 2x on and each one with 1db increase
Then an L3 Ultramaximizer(?) to catch all the clips
Do you have any ideas on how to improve my mix......im baically working mostly in the box....i have some outboard preamps and compressor but nothing crazy.....im just starting out some im looking to drop more money in it as i go

Im not entirely sure, but I think it worth checking out. Solo the vocals and pan them hard left and right o check. Try nuding everything a few samples and possibly switch the phase on one of the channels. Just experiment a little. I could be completely wrong. :) Otherwise, sounds great to me.

cool i'll mess around with some stuff thanks

GHOST...did you completely replace the drums with the slate samples or were they programmed or what?
I'm ashamed to say Ez Drummer sampled with steven slate drums
I would love to do real drums.....but time/money/space/knowledge/skill keep me from it.....maybe some day

by the way I'm ashamed of programming my drums not of Steven Slate DRums
Slate is a stand up guy and his samples are groundbreaking for the project studio

+1... Our band is losing our drummer and I'll have to be doing this with all the new stuff we write... incidentally after we just found out that we're going to be playing next years Bloodfest in Europe... and doing quite a bit of touring over there... too bad for him...
