anyone like this band?? what's their best album?? you know, the basic info anyone tryoing to get into a band needs to know :);)

Anything after (and including) 'Souls at Zero' is essential for fans of the genre. My favorite was always 'Through Silver in Blood', but I would point new fans to either 'Times of Grace' or 'A Sun that Never Sets'.

Two members of the band (Scott Kelly and Steve Von Till) also have some solo albums

I love this band.My fav would be Souls At Zero, only because it was the first album i bought of Neurosis's.Through Silver And Blood woud be a good starting point for new ears.Although they have a new dvd out which would be a great medium for new fans. It's supoosed to be awsome.

Neurosis kicks ass. It could take you a little while to actually get into them..they're very different. But mark my word you listen to them long enough their albums will encompass you and drag you in. Through Silver in Blood is definitely a superb album to snag. Times of Grace is excellent as well..you really can't go wrong with any of them. Trust me though, they're genius's. Tool should fuckin' take notes.

Times Of Grace is my favourite album. Most isolating atmosphere in my opinion. Away is probably my favourite Neurosis song, either that or Locust Star.

As for comparisons to Tool; I think they are risky. Although Tool do of course go for mood a lot of the time, they are also concerned (i'd say primarily) with writing good music first, and then building mood from that. Neurosis is just mood, through and through from the outset. Tool have the musical knack to write some moody stuff, and i'd hardly say Neurosis were technically complex, it's just a matter of wanting to strip your music down to such a primal function. What Neurosis do isn't, in my opinion, down to their tremendously unique talent, it's just their dedication to such an extreme manner of music.

Neurosis is essential for anybody interested in innovative music or heavy music. It's hard to pick a favorite album.

If you end up getting into Neurosis, or if you like them but want something with a little more groove, check out Isis.

Neurosis music is in no way impossible to play..but neither is Tool for that matter. Their music takes way more thought provoking musicianship, however. It really is a useless argument seeing as they play really different music. I'm just fed up with all the fucking hype around Tool when their fucking singer is a total prick and can't even face his own audience..bitter you could say.

I 100% agree with everything you just said. Right on.

Cool! Glad you like them. They are pretty much legendary. Neurosis . . . not Isis. Isis is on their way.

You must buy more Neurosis CD's. Each one is differend, but totally amazing.

I beg to differ.I'm a huge fan of Tool and Neurosis respectivly.I really like'd how Maynard hid himself from view making you take notice of the band and the amazing show Tool put on.I really hate...well i won't use the word hate, but i prefer bands that have singers that play something aswell as sing.I have more respect for these bands than bands that have a lone front man,pin-up boy or whatever. No direspect to the bands that do have a singer that ...well just sings. There are some great bands that do this aswell.Like Tool.

I'd go with Through Silver In Blood, Times Of Grace and A Sun That Never Sets.
And also check out Cult of Luna! Great band from Sweden, quite similar to Neurosis.

Cult Of Luna are indeed a great band.I have a couple of mp3's and i so WANT their cd.

Neurosis are one of the most unique (metal)bands ever. I realized it when Through Silver..... was released. I needed some time to get into the music now i have every release and the song i love the most is TAKEAHNASE of Souls at Zero - fu**ing intensive like most of their songs.
The one thing i don't like is neurosis' stuff before Souls at Zero - i only know THE WORD AS LAW (not very good simple hardcore).

By the way i listened today to their official bootleg-live-album (recorded '99 anywhere in france). Great stuff, quite good sound and great 6 songs (i'm not sure: Times of Grace, the doorway, locust star, an offering, away, and another one i can't remember)

Listen to this great live-output of neurosis - about 57 minutes of pure live-neurosis.
