I've been wanting to start getting outboard gear and been saving some money for it but i was still unsure what to get. I finally made a decision and went with what a few engineer friends of mine recommended, the JDK R22. For the price it really is hard to beat unless you go in the clones department. It's really well built, simple to use, can be linked for stereo work and has true power summing, sounds good and clean and it looks cool to boot! I'm also liking what the THRUST feature does so far. It's definitely no 1176, but that's not really the point, i know i will eventually save up for one but for now i needed something a little more versatile that i could use for both tracking and mixing. I still have yet to put it into some real use but so far i'm really happy with my purchase. Would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a good all around compressor on a tight budget.

Not so new but still relatively new is a Digi Command 8 i purchased last month. I finally finished altering my desk to have it built into it and i really love this thing. Mixing with a control surface is just a completely different world and i find it much more enjoyable not to mention faster to work on. I was a bit skeptical of control surfaces until i actually started working on them and now i really can't see myself working without. I would do it if i had to but i much prefer having one.

And ya i didn't like the faders and knobs so i swapped them out for something better.
