Live gear question. Rack gear and spaces between.

Hi, I know this isn't a recording question but I suppose the same principles would apply to studio gear.

I'm updating my live gear for upcoming shows and I'm going with rack stuff. I already have a Marshall 9100 power amp in a 4U case which I use with my POD xt bean but I am wanting to sell my old rack case and POD Bean then get a POD xt pro and a new rack case with a handle and wheels.

Now I was just going to get a SKB 5U rack case but I've been told by some friends to get a 6U case and leave a space between the gear to let heat escape. I did some research on this and it seems that opinion is divided on the subject. Some people say it is necessary to keep the gear safe, others say it will just encourage dust to collect.

What are your opinions on this subject? And if I do just go for a 5U do you think the POD would be better on the bottom below the Marshall to avoid heat from the valves or on top where I've seen most people put them.

Thanks!
