Hi,

I re-recorded a song of mine.

Any kind of constructive criticism/comments/feedback on the tune, riffs, playing, sound, mix, etc is very much appreciated.

How is this mix?

Thanks,
Lars

I don't know why people won't comment on posts on here regardless if your new, suck as mixing or whatever. This mix is actually pretty good. Guitars are a little loud. Drums sound extremely generic and fake. BUT for the most part and what you had to work with I would say this is a good attempt. And a cool track as well.

Not much I can say that he hasn't said already. I agree with pretty much everything he said.

Thank you very much, guys, I appreciate your feedback.
How can I get the drums to sounds less generic and fake? Is it a matter of changing the velocities around a bit or is this also a mixing matter?
Let me ask this way: do you think they sound fake generic due to the way I programmed them or due to the way I mixed them?

Thanks,
Lars

Good stuff, I like the "angelic" part in the middle. I would agree the guitars need to come back a little which would help glue the mix together over all. And the drums sound like they've been over-compressed maybe? The snare isn't hitting me in the face...I need that "smack" and the kick sounded a little boxy.

Thank you very much!

Would I get more smack in the snare by adding some highs? or is this more a matter of compression?
And the boxiness of the kick, would that be mainly caused by mids?

Thanks again,
Lars

On snare, the 2 areas to start with would be around 900hz and 5k. If i starts getting honky check around 500hz. On the kick look around cutting in the 400hz region with possibly a boost around 4k to help it poke through.

As always, these are just the standard starting points but at least it will get you in the right area.

And compression will definitely affect your sound, just give it a try. Put a compressor on the snare and slam the hell out of it and then back it off. You'll definitely hear the difference, just judge it in the mix to see what you like.

Also give some parallel compression a try on your drums, that always adds a nice crisp attack
