New Drummer - Any Help?

Hey, im fairly new to drumming but im really looking forward to be tanking them hardcore.

A few of my friends play guitar and bass so i decided to go for drums, but they all have a few years on me..

Can anyone maybe give me some tips and techniques so i will be able to progress with them faster? Im not going to take drum lessons im trying to just self teach myself.

Any tips would be appreciated Thanks.

don't go to musical teachers they suck (unless your learning piano) but get a friend who plays drums to give you some tips.

cant really think of too much other stuff to say,Im not a drummer but i would recomed haing a metronome playing non stop,like while you're on the comp and stuff,just to drill it in your brain

Ahh yah, Im going out to buy a metronome and some good drumsticks this coming thursday (Payday!).

Although is it going to be possible to hear the metronome while i play? I hit the drums loudly, speccially since ive been tanking ALL night tonight.

yeah, and play with older records, like black sabbth, before trying to play new stuff witch is bery hard. I recomend the Dr.Beat metronome series also, and the iron cobra series pedals.

I think you need to play some AC/DC. Is it because it is simple ? Only partly. Older AC/DC stuff sometimes has so little drums in it that it is very hard to play. It requires perfect timing. Timing and metre (look those words up) are the basics of drumming and AC/DC will put you on the right track.

Training. Practice all the same. All the time from the start. Even if you've learned some exercise good and next day you start to learn some other one - start it with your old one. From simple stuff to difficult, even if that simple stuff seems elementary.

See if you can find an electronic one that you can plug headphones into.
