New Empyrium album Über den Sternen pre-order (due 2-26-21)

Awesome. No need to preview the song. Sold!

I adore The Turn of the Tides and The Mill is also pretty good. Songs of Moors & Misty Fields is the best for me, but Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays is a close second.

That's how good this band is, when something like Weiland is my 3rd favoUrite release.

I was rashly fanboyish about their return at first but grew tired of The Turn of the Tides really fast, that album feels incomplete and too "easy" in many ways. I don't ever listen to it anymore. We'll see about that new one. I'm not sold on that track, which might be a good sign.

I've listened to this new track a few times and I'm not sold on it either. It does sound more promising than anything off the last album though, which I pretty much hated.

fun fact: they released their entire original body of work ("a wintersunset" through "weiland") in the span of six years

it has already been six years since "turn of the tides"

time, man

i'm in this camp too, the last album was some grade "A" bullshit and i do not acknowledge its existence

this one sounds okay, they are clearly not embarrassing themselves but i'm not Feeling It™

When you consider this, together with the fact the guy was only 18 years old when the debut was released, it's all the more mind-blowing that he's spent the best part of the next two decades releasing absolute garbage.

I adore The Turn of the Tides

So do I. I think the music matches the cover art: majestic soundscapes. I still find it enrapturing.

I've always been partial to Weiland, but I also adore Where at Night the Woodgrouse Plays. I've spent less time with the early stuff than I should because I usually reach for the aforementioned two when I go for Empyrium.

ehh, I will listen, but definitely prefer the weiland/wood grouse sound--I feel like they kind of perfected the more metal style with songs of moors --Hopefully they do something mostly acoustic again in the future- If you guys are in the mood, our friend M. Lehto released an acoustic octoberfalls recently, beautiful for these dark times---SUPPORT.

To be honest, I mostly check the prophecy page for new Tenhi album news--their last update was Dec 2018--they can take their time, but please soon :p. I anticipate some news in the next 2-3 weeks--you heard it here folks!

I'm not going to spend a lot of time defending it, but the thing with The Turn of the Tides is that I did not walk in expecting old Empyrium. It's exactly what I wanted from an album released in 2014: not retro, definitely modern, but unlike seemingly everything else these days I believed the emotion behind it. It sounds real to me.

That being said even though I keep trying I've found that Noekk and The Vision Bleak are both pretty blah to the Bth degree. Oh well, back to old Empyrium!

Another new track has been released. I'm enjoying this one more than the last. I have to say, I'm not really a big fan of Helm's vocals on this newer material, as much as it suited Weiland, for example. I'd rather it was just Schwadorf doing the vocals like on the first two albums.

I spent like $45 on the LP pre-order, so hopefully I don't hate this album. Haven't heard the new song, but I did enjoy the first one.
