New Framus Cobra vids...

I've been stewing with that first clip for a few days now, and I think the amp really suits your playing, whether you believe that or not! I still think the older clip absolutely wins, but the crushing riffs may have something to do with that one too.

Judging by the songs vs the playthrough it seems like this amp really benefits from an aggressive low-pass? It seems to take out a lot of the white noise character.

I agree it's an awesome and juicy amp for me. this is one of those of those amps that just sounds good without any effort being made from my end. I could slam the microphone behind the cabinet and it would still sound good.

Yes I think the low pass filtering helps this amp a lot...anyway it's also a different guitar in the last video...I think the 8 strings sounds very very "passive" so big spikes in the highs and very grainy

Have had access to a Cobra for over 2 years but I never got into it. Me and the owner tried it again the other day and we couldn't get round the over fizziness. Maybe new tubes would give it more beef but I can't get a usable tone from it.

Vids sound awesome though!

I love my Cobra! :D

I agree it's a bit harsh on the high end, especially on the channel 2. Also is REALLY responsive to the pickups. I had my Caparison with EMG85 some years ago, and I totally hated it on the Cobra, when I switched it for an EMG81 it was like night and day: perfect tone for me.

I'd love to know about a well mixed album that's been completely recorded with a Cobra (at least mainly).

I'm glad you think so. I remember you saying that the amp didn't do much for you in the room the first time you played it, and that awesome first recording felt like a fluke, haha.

@Erik: I'll be working with a prog band sometime in the near future where one of the guitarists owns a Cobra. I'll definitely strive to track that one, somehow, and see how it works for us.

Considering grabbing one each of the Mesa Roadster and ENGL Pro 2x12 cabs just to give it a shot.

Yep, the Cobra does suit your playing IMO.

As for the fizzyness, If you put a small ( 1 or 2 dB ) notch at 5->6 KHz , will this resolve the issue satisfactorily ?

I also think that the Uberschall fits your playing perfectly, so I am dissapointed that you have not yet done a video with that amp.

So, I just tried these settings, compaired to the settings from the very first video:
Lead Channel No notch
Gain: noon
Presence: 10 o clock
Bass: 12:30
Mid: 1 o clock
Treble: 11:30
Deep: 0

The sound is VERY similar (except for the top end, but that could be a difference in your guitars). There is no way I could use your high Pres/Treble settings with the notch engaged. It is just too much top end unless you are micing way off the cone or using a serious lowpass, but then again, I know you lowpass at 7-8, so maybe that is the case.

Oh wow, that's surprising. The crunch sounds a lot better when you're channel surfing on the 'playthrough' video. It's good to hear that in a full mix the lead holds its own on rhythms too!

I want to try this damned amp really bad now.

It's just because I'm a gainoholic. Without boost the crunch channel needs the gain at MAX to be at least chuggy and nice, I believe in the playthrough video that it is at least.

The lead channel is a wet gain dream ! :)

I look forward to see what you can pull off with this amp. It has taken me a long time to get a decent sound of it, but I am stoked with it these days. Still never used a better or more cutting live amp.

I am getting ready to do some reamps with some greenbacks today, as I hear these speakers work great with the Cobra (these are the speakers in the Cobra cab too)

Well ttrentt, if the offer is still open I might get you to reamp something through the Cobra that I'll be working on in a few weeks. Not a profit thing, but something similar to a gear shoot-out with a variable that hasn't been tested much before! Can't think of a better amp than the Cobra for the song I'll be doing.
