With the drums out of the way im onto the tracking of the guitars. We went in search of a long forgotten tone, dry, tight, but still sticky enough to glue the fast picking together. A good day and a half went it to it, through all the amps, inc the Marshall Vintage Modern, but in the end we went with Domo Dixons trusty JCM 2000 DSL thru a vintage marshall cab. Hes got a US charvel strat which is a reissue of an 80's model which sounds killer. Hes got an endorsement with Dimarzio and its a good job we had a soldering iron on the go because we tried a stack of different pick ups from their high gain range. In the end, the tone zone made the cut. Almost all their riffs are 16th note alternate picking on the A or E string. Its a mission equal to that of getting to Mars and back to keep it tight and defined, but we're getting through it. We even mic'd the cab from 2 inches back to get some 80's ambience in there. These guys LOVE the 80's.
