I would go for the Engl 530...
If you search on the forum there are a few samples of that preamp w/ impulses...
I remember Kazrog was getting killer tones out of that box...

The E530 will make you happy. The controls on the lead channel are pretty sensitive, so between that and the contour switch, you can get an amazing range of tones with it for pretty much whatever you need. The character of the distortion is really clear, almost like a built-in Tube Screamer, but without any of the annoying honky or boxy sounds that a TS can sometimes cause. You can get a great midrange djent out of it if you run the gain up past 5 in high gain mode. With high mid and treble pretty high, you can get a Rectifier kind of top end sizzle out of it, but roll either/both of those off a bit, and it smooths out nicely. The clean channel is a bit weak in my opinion (the tone stack is pre-gain, so if you start to push it hard, you only can really control the character of the distortion, not the equalization of the overall sound), but it's definitely still usable.
