New Gojira track

um...what?
good sounding mix, devins vox sound cool too, but musically this is beyond boring. repetitive and unoriginal as fuck. the only thing remotely listenable is the tapping section (very meshuggah sounding though) and that 4:36 riff.

Thank you! I really don't see how you guys think the music is anything but below par for this band?

Only thing I'd disagree with is devin.... I can't be the only one who finds his voice grating?

Musically does nothing for me like all the rest of their catalogue though.

I don't like many of their songs but there are a few ones that are really awesome, I recommend you this one that I consider one of the most "heavy" songs I know :

At first I thought his voice didn't fit their sound but after a second listening, nope.

Unless you are saying you "generally" don't like his voice, in that case I really don't know what to answer.

EDIT : the intro riffage is generic but I love the simplicity of the second riff (the one before devin). Also, i just noticed the tremendous "ooomph" guitars and bass do at each palm mute. So gritty, it's sounding huge.

I "generally" don't like anything about him, I guess he's just one of those people that winds me up.
Everyone knows a couple of people like that!

Yeah, even though I can appreciate the fact he's an insanely talented musician, I simply cannot get into the whole "DEVIN TOWNSEND'S MUSIC IS THE BOMB!" feeling that goes around quite frequently in internet metal forum circles.
Don't really know what it is, as I said he's a great musician, but I never feel compelled to listen to his stuff.

I'm thinking that the whoomps in the guitars were overdubbed? Sounds so over-the-top...I wouldn't think that they would track them like that normally.

In all objectiveness, if his music appeals to you, it never does at half. He's trully unique, and it's not just hype in his case. Even if you love his music, there is always an album you cannot stand (i have a few albums in his discography i just find boring) because all of them are different.

Though even if he does very different stuff, if you don't like the way he mixes, how sound his guitars or his drums (very thin most of the time to be able to sit hundreds of tracks in the mix) or his voice, that's more than understandable.

In all subjectiveness, yeah his music his the bomb :) Songs like "triumph", "deadhead", "funeral" etc make me shiver each time. Plus, his shows are awesome.

Didn't know there were so many Devin haters out there. If he sucks so much, who the fuck are you comparing him to so I can praise him/her? He is probably one of the most dynamically capable musicians/composers in the world, not just metal... My mind is boggled almost as much about the DT hate as it is on how awesome a song can be, yet be so simple. Can't wait for the full length.

Yes he's very competent, however his music is soulless and forgettable.
Aside from his annoying voice.

It's not bad. I think in the context of a whole album, it would probably make more sense. I don't believe in this whole singles bullshit.

Production is nice. Guitar tone is a little undynamic for me though.

That is the craziest thing I have ever read, Devin has the best voice in metal, and his music is certainly not soulless. I have no idea why you would think that.

Dude, ok you dont like devin townsend but his music is soulless? GTFO, you dont know shit about is discography. Ocean machine is probably one of the most memorable albuns ever done, lots of soul. If you dont like, simply just dont hear it.

seriously, while gojira has never been my favorite band or something, i really enjoyed most parts off TWOAF. for the most part, the riffs are somewhat out of the ordinary. with this song, they're back to REALLY basic riffing...very generic sounding, to my ears at least.
i enjoyed the drumming though, just like i did on TWOAF.
drums and mix are actually my favorite aspects of TWOAF.
