The songwriting was also lacking a lot of the magic of the first two if you ask me.
Some of that had to do with that key element of Scalzi's vocals, but moreso the songs just lacked the distinctive character and charisma that made them HoM.

Yeah, that's probably valid. There's no doubt that some of the stuff was remarkable, lyrics included, but yeah, I hear what you're saying.
 
It's all about the songwriting, mate. Stuff like musicianship and production etc is so secondary to me (even though I think they're spot on in both categories). The Bastard was recorded on dual analog 8-tracks....couldn't ask for anymore. :D

Me too. Didn't hate that one, but it fell off the radar really quick.

Scalzi is still out, right? That concerns me. I'll buy it the day it is released either way.
