ok- there are a lot singers out there with distinct voices that just rub some people the wrong way (johnny cash, billy corgan, jeff buckley, tori amos, lenoard cohen, so on and so forth)- just because you dont like it doesnt make you some expert on if its good or not. its just your opinion, and you should recognize that before you go and insult someone/a whole band who has sold a lot more albums than you have.
its not that they couldnt make more technical music-its that they make the music they want to make. i dont always find katatonia so depressing. i like them because theyre amazing, they change and experiement around more than opeth, theres increadible - oh hell. i dont even think its worth describing to you. i hope you never buy a katatonia cd, because you obviously lack the depth and intellegence required to get it.
Wow. Feisty little thing, aren't you? Well, chill out. No need for the insults.
Let me point out that by your own reasoning, I'm entitled to my opinion that they aren't very good. And nothing I said was an insult to you. Apparently you're the Katatonia ambassador though. And actually, I didn't even go into the fact that I don't like Katatonia in the initial post that got you so mad. I merely said they're the opposite of Opeth...which they still are.
So now I'll explain.
I think LFDGD has some pretty good songs on it. And I've made the distinction many times on here that people have different opinions about music but that there
are ways to analyze a group's music. For instance, yes, it's true that different voices strike people differently -- it's a
fact that Jonas' voice is often flat, but hey, I understand that some people think it fits the music perfectly, and I even agree that it does. I just don't like it when singers aren't on the right note.
And I also said that the music is repetitive....BECAUSE IT IS. That's not rocket science. Every song of Katatonia's is built around those droning eighth notes. Yes, it definitely conveys a feeling...it's just a feeling that makes me bored.
You said they change and experiment more than Opeth. You mean like going from metal to pop? I'm curious how you could make that statement. I certainly wouldn't say Katatonia is more original that Opeth. In fact, I've NEVER heard a Katatonia fan make this claim, so I'm quite interested.
At any rate, we can respectfully disagree. No need to insult my intelligence when you've been on the board all of a week or so.
p.s. -- the whole "you can't judge them because they've sold more albums than you" is just ridiculous. by that reasoning, how can you say they are good musicians? i thought only britney spears is allowed to decide that.
