New Line 6 Tone Port

Hmm... seems pretty light on guitar features when compared to the xt, but the modelled vocal preamps (API/Neve... and a Studer 2" tape emulator!) look interesting. Focusrite just tried something like this with their $3000+ "Liquid Channel", which has been getting mixed reviews from users (magazines love it, but magazines love anything from brands who buy 2-page ad spreads). I'd like to see what Line6 can do for so cheap; should be interesting.

Im more interested in it for the vocal features. Im curious to how they modeled those vintage pre's! If there even half as good as the originals its worth looking into.

I'm sure Liquid Channel would destroy this thing. But it may sound OK for its price point.

Liquid channel will crush this thing for sure. It doesnt even compare. Hey btw, Im lookng into getting a killer pre amp. Im leaning toward the Avalon 737.

the * new * software for it looks almotthe same as guitarport. and it goes via usb etc, and line 6 + usb isnt a good combi IMO.

i prefer the podxt direct to the soundcard

Why not use the POD XT over USB to record with? I do this all the time and it works great. Much cleaner than going into a consumer sound card. By the way, did you ever get an interface?

hahaha no i don't have a interface . i always record via left output direct to soundcard and IMO sounds allot better then via usb. always wheni used the usb ( first with the guitarport ) via usb the sound really sucked. i tried the podxt via usb, but i really didnt like that sound.

Check out "the brick" by Groove Tubes - a lot cheaper, many features. Not that I know how it compares to the Avalon, but in my opinion, the Avalon may be a bit overkill - but it depends on the rest of your setup and what kind of music you're recording...and if you're on a budget.....

I agree; The Brick is an excellent value; ugly as all hell, just one knob, but sounds superb. In fact, I'd say it sounds better than most of Avalon's pres (i find them extremely overrated), though it's obviously a question of personal taste. If you've got enough cash for an Avalon, look into A-Designs MP series, Great River's pres, AMI-Tab's V78m, API's modular stuff, Manley's mono pre... different strokes for different folks, I guess, but the Avalons really didn't impress me at their pricepoint.
