notably the Q6600 is around $40 off, Q6700 is an amazing $250 off, and some others too.

Anyways, I think I'm gonna go with something like this maybe:

Have you considered Vista 64? It's a much more stable 64 bit OS from what I've heard.

Looks like a nice rig. I'm waiting on buying a new computer right now too because of all the new tech. It's hard to decide what will keep me safe for a few years.

It's stable, but not significantly moreso than XP 64, but it IS significantly more irritating. As I type this, there is a window currently notifying me that updates I installed will require a restart and it's blinking at me incessantly like a child who wants candy. There's no "I'll do it later" option, there are only options to remind me again in 10 minutes, 1 hour or 4 hours. Add that to the user access control rubbish, the inability to load unsigned drivers, the way folders are sorted by default (and your inability to change this) and I wouldn't recommend it. Oh, yes, and explorer windows will occasionally freeze for three seconds at a time when you're trying to find a file.

If you've got the know-how and sheer bloodimindedness required to get a Hackintosh running (shouldn't be too hard, really, considering you'll be running an Intel) then I'd probably go with that, or failing that, XP64. Or XP 32. Or anything but Vista.

In response to your actual question, though, Reaper, Drumagog and Revalver run on XP64. There are, surprisingly enough, 64-bit drivers for the Firepod, and you'd have to read the readme to find out if they support dual Firepods, but I suspect they probably would.

Oh yes, one more thing. If you plan on micing up anything in the same room as that computer (not recommended, but you never know) then I'd probably recommend a quieter case. You can go nuts on "silent" cases, but the Antec Sonata series are affordable and are pretty much inaudible.

Looks awesome!
But I would read up on that P5E motherboard.
I bought the P5N-E, and my north/southbridge is overheated as f*ck(Dropping the performance by about 25%.).

its in a separtate room.....so thats not an issue.

Oh really, I've seen good reviews on the G35 series motherboards....and Newegg rates them good too. In your case, would it help to replace your Northbridge cooler with an aftermarket one? Zalman is only like 10 bucks or so.

Hello everyone,

I know I'm a noob here ... BUT :
Please save your time and don't use Vista ... on my new Dell laptop (not for music) I got this os because it's allready in when you buy it. I've just installed open office ... and the computer allready got crashes etc ...

Stay XP , Linux, or anything ... but not VISTA.

/Nick.
ps: excuse me please for my bad English.

Im sticking to XP... good call Nick.

And i'll tag this, since it seems like a excellent machine for a good price, i am looking for a music/production only PC, and this could just be it... nice thread.

almost 4/20

....btw, How about Vista 64 ?? I've been reading up on it, and lot of people are liking SP1 vista 64 bit.

Should I just ship to that? And which platform? Home, Business, Ultimate?? What's the difference?
